As mentioned in the Colt 6920 thread, I stated that we are now a Colt Distributor. We received a batch of 6940’s in today and I was wondering at what price point would consumers find this AR appealing???

Low enough to fit my budget. Grant, how about a screeeeeaming deal for being the first replying to this thread .
OK tried
The Colt 6940 along with LMT, DD and BCM were all rifles I was considering. I went w/DD today. Price, I think $1250-1299 would catch some attention.
I could get one through my lowest-price local dealer for $1374, if that’s any benchmark. By contrast he could get me the 6920 for $1058. Since you’re beating him on the 6920 by ~$70 I’d say you could list the 6940 for $1299 and sell a truckload of them, assuming that’s sufficiently above your cost.
While the 6940 isn’t my personal preference, I can see a lot of people wanting that particular config and being glad to get one out of the box like that for such a good price.
I agree with this pretty much 100%.
I might even be inclined to say $1325-1350. While I don’t know what the demand would be from many on this board who have no reservations about building or modifying a rifle specifically to their want/needs; I think to the 80% I’ve seen you mention before (and probably more since Colt is a recognizable top quality mfg) you’d sell a metric shit ton.
$1,299 to 1,349 should work. These are the most accurate AR’s on the market for standard CL barrel. I love mine and give them a big thumbs up.
Would these be the sporter models or are they the LE models?
Welcome to M4C dsk!
Thank you very much. Been lurking for a while.
I own 2 LE6940s…bought 'em for myself and my son. Paid 1795@ or there about…It’s exactly what I wanted in an AR…one is set with a NIKON 223 scope. Have used them with the slide fire (1000 rds of 5.56 and 223 in a 6 hrs period at near full auto) Flawless outta the box(except for strip and clean)![]()
You’d probably sell more of the front sight bases than the rifles if you could get them separate. Too bad another distributor has the market locked up on 10.5 and 11.5 6940 SBR’s. You could always see if they’d be willing to produce non-monolithic rifles/uppers with the folding fsb.

FYI, Colt LE6921’s are California legal if they are sold with a muzzle device pinned to 16.1, or with a 16 inch upper, unlike the 6920’s, or anything with “sporter” or “ar-15” on it. If the price is similar to what you get the 6920’s for, you could do some serious business.
I was thinking $1280 might work well.
Thoughts on that price?

Sporter model. The LE line is on the way out an soon everything will be a sporter.
So no more silly “LE ONLY” on the side of their guns.

Really, you think so? I’d thought the fsb was something many had complained about on the 6940. I’ve never seen what the problem is, but then the hardest use it sees from me is classes, etc.
As for pricing, I think you’d sell quite a few at $1280 Grant. I bought my LE6940 at 1489 and felt (and still feel) it was a decent value–though that was prior to the introduction of the SP-line that knocked a few hundred off the typical 6920 and 6940 prices.
$1299 is what I paid for the my LE6940 in October 2009 and prices have pretty much floated at or just above that mark. I would think anything between $1299-$1349 is very much reasonable and along the line of what other large volume dealers are asking.
Hi Grant:
I purchased a 6940 from Phoenix when they first came out at the LEO price, which was $1325. I agree that $1280 would work very well, and would opine that that you would sell quite a few at that price point.
Best regards,
SRT
I think that would work. But check GunBroker and all the big (and some small online dealers). I am thinking the lowest price I was on the 6940 was around $1320. You will get the sales regardless from those familiar with you. But the challenge is to make those comfortable with other dealers think hard over $40-75 for the same gun. I think it is a reasonable strategy-just have to get the $ right.
I’ve always thought that the colt monolithic upper, with a KAC/PRI/Colt folding sight would make a badass Mk. 18.
Grant, $1280, would be great.
$1280 is a price I can live with I think and I hope it will get people more interested in this rifle.
Thanks for the feedback guys!

That is a great price Grant, and I would have no problem recommending that. Good luck with sales.
