Colt 20" AR15A4 coming?

Wow. Full circle.

My first AR was a 20" HBAR Match Target back in 96/97…

…Memories…

And yes, it was a heavy bastage. What a smooth shooter though - rifle length stock, heavy 20.

No evil, murderous threads or bayo lugs anywhere.

H bar is the target rifle but it weight less than the tacticools that many were bringing to the range several years ago.

So did colt have a rifle length 20" govt profile barrel with M4 feed ramps before this rifle? Or is this a completely new barrel?

Simply cutting a barrel with M4 ramps doesn’t make it completely new

my HBAR was 1/7

My Match HBAR 6601 is 1/7

I understand that. I’ve seen plenty of colt 20" govt profiles for sale but didn’t know if the M4 feed ramp barrel extension was something new. Just curious.

My Colt HBAR is 1/7, as well, and I absolutely despise the weight. From the bench, it’s fine, but when moving, it really, really sucks.

All of the colt 20 inch barrels I’ve seen or read about had rifle feed ramps although it is always possible they have made them for a special contract before.

The only difference is the extension that is screwed on to the barrel before the gas port is drilled. Instead of grabbing one from one box they grab one from another box that has the extensions cut deeper.

Personally while I’m happy to see this they are late to the party. I have 2 bcm 20 inch uppers(one on a complete bcm lower and the other on a local ffl’s made by mega). I would have at least really considered the colt to the bcm(which can take a while to get). At this point I have 2 of them though and I don’t really think the colt is any better than the bcm rifle(at least by any margin worth swapping them). I mean I might get one at some point but it would be low on the list.

Would be sweet as is with an ACOG up top! Lightweight, and accurate to 600 m

So do these look like rifle feed ramps or M4 feed ramps? I’m not seeing a 4 stamped on the barrel extension, but guess I was just assuming they were M4 ramps due to lining up with the cuts on the upper. This is the colt 20" on a colt A2 upper.

I guess the weight never bothered me. I carried the 20 inch HBAR all over the desert for years.

That is a M4 extension with ramps in the upper.

Then that brings me back to the original question or thought which is could this be one of the new colt barrels? Or did they previously produce 20" govt barrels with M4 barrel extension?

I’m just trying to wrap my head around how my local little shop could have ended up with it if it were a new product of some sort.

How much do these H Bar rifles weigh?

colt does their own barrels in house and the extensions are screwed onto the barrel, it is cheaper for Colt to only stock M4 uppers and extensions and then just slap in new barrels.

People have been asking for a no ban 20" AR from Colt for years. This model will be very popular.

Got it. Thanks.

You don’t save that much weight with a government profile over the heavy barrel, about 7 or 8 oz. or so, but it does help offset the weight of the optic and mount.

I have a Colt MT6700 that has been turned down and reparked under the handguards, but it has the 1/9 twist barrel. All Colt has to do is recontour the 1/7 twist 6601 barrel and add it to the 6700 flattop. Would’ve been nice if they’d done this years ago.

I dig it.

Though I really want to find a 6951 to sbr…

I m not a fan of the ghost camo on one of the guns in the video
