Colt 1911 short spur hammer

Will a short spur hammer from say Turnbull mfg work on a new Series 70 Colt as a replacement part? The idea came due to hammer bite. Is it drop in?

It should work. It might be drop in. Very miner fitting. There a lot of aftermarket parts available.

Fire control parts are never true drop in. While they may work, the trigger pull may not be to the owner’s liking. Help from a competent pistolsmith may be required to achieve satisfactory trigger pull. But compared to a glock, even the worst 1911 trigger feels great.

I prefer the short hammer from Harrison Design & Consulting:

Wow very nice. Exactly what is was looking for. Thank you.

You’re welcome.

I had John dehorned the entire pistol and also reworked the factory grip safety. The gun doesn’t bite at all.

A file and some cold blue would fix up the stock hammer like that in about 10 minutes…

Oh really.

It wouldn’t make it just like the Harrison, but it could be thinned and shortened to help with bite.
