Is there really any gloves out there that keep your hands warm and still allow for good trigger manipulation? I’m reading the current thread on tactical gloves, but not sure if those gloves are also good to protect against the elements. I figure there’s a tradeoff between thickness to keep your hands warm and being able to feel the trigger, but not sure if there is a right balance that anyone has found.
Thanks for any of your responses. Sorry if this has been covered, but did not see it right away after doing a search.
Since the previous thread is dated why don’t we revisit this? Jordan or other mods any issues here?
If we’re GTG w/ proceeding I am returning a pair of the Petzl K52 Cordex lightweight gloves. The palm (double leather here) & fingers (single layer goat skin) is somewhat too beefy for me, not enough dexterity for my usage in shooting.
Will continue w/ my fingerless, leather & well worn (minus manuf. markings) from Lowes several yrs. back.
A good thread re. this over on LF but we can proceed here so …
For shooting in temps from about freezing down to the low teen temps these have worked nicely for me as shooting gloves. I also wear them daily at work (LE) during Chicago winters.
I have shot with these in 15-20 degrees with a good amount of snow on the ground, and they did their job well.
If you are doing amphibious frogman ops at the north pole, or need to be able to shoot from your bathroom sink filled with water, these gloves probably aren’t for you ;). If you need a reasonable priced glove that blocks wind well, and keeps your hands reasonably warm while still having some tactile dexterity, these are a good pick.
They are available @ REI or Sports Authority stores.
When I was on Patrol I was using the Under Armour Cold Gear Fleece Gloves. They sell for around $25. Can shoot a pistol and rifle very comfortably. Can also reload mags comfortably as well. Plus side is they are very thin and you get a great feel on the trigger, downside is they are very thin and not the warmest. Can’t have both. I always carried a second set of thicker all season gloves that I would put on right over the Under Armour’s if it got real cold and I knew I probably was not going to need to pull my pistol out or go hands on (i.e. directing traffic or clearing an accident).
I wasn’t dissing the thread, it’s very timely seeing was we’re back in the cold weather. I was playing a fool on myself for not looking at the date and clicking the links…
No worries here, glad this has been revisited as we’re getting some fresh NEW intel now.
Had hoped the Petzl’s that M Hueser has been using might be an option but as stated mine are headed back Mon.
I need to take a look @ Nic’s suggestion + Lynn’s on LF as I respect their opinions. May pick up a 2nd pair of leather fingerless as they may have been updated w/ some lite insulation inside, one pair w/ the rifle, one in the go-bag.
The last 4-5 years I’ve been trying to find a shooting style glove that is both fairly warm and 100% waterproof. I do a lot of waterfowling and all of the gloves I try or have found are wither way too bulky or even though they say waterproof they arent and my hands freeze. The closest so far to what I want are the Cabelas Kangaroo Gortex shooting gloves but they do get wet and my hands still freeze.
Has anyone found a 100% waterproof glove that is between a shooting glove and a heavy duty insualted glove?
