Cobra Riggers belt in 1.5"

I have tons of holsters, pouches all in 1.5" and was wondering who makes a 1.5" riggers belt with cobra buckle in coyote with or without the V ring? It seems they are only available in 1.75" I have an Ares ranger belt but I also want a standard riggers/instructors belt with a cobra buckle.

I’d like to see the Yates belt, since AustriAlpin tells me that they don’t make a 1.5" Cobra buckle.

Is it possible he has back stock? I notice that AustriAlpin does show a 38mm/1.5" buckle on their site.

Anyway I have dealt with a guy named Kary Welch in the past…he built me a great belt which I reviewed here.

If you pull up that review, his email is in there. I am still running the belt and it’s great. I did read that he does 1.5" belts but I have not actually seen one myself.

Hey, maybe they’ve released it since the last time we talked about it. Seriously, if someone has the Yates belt, I’d like to hear how you like it.

How about making one for us Jake?

I have a belt from Kary. I would shoot him an email and see what he could make for ya, he has been receptive and produced what I wanted and got it to me in short time. Remember that the buckles cost $30 when you see the price.

I’m basically in the same boat as Loner. I too have a lot of holsters and mag pouches that are 1.5". My everyday belt was a Wilderness 1.5" 5-stitch but I just recently retired it since Loner and I got our Ares belts.
Anyway, while satisfied with our Ares, we got to thinking if there was a “perfect” belt out there or if anyone could make one with our specs.

  • 1.5 stiffened webbing (when used as a pistol belt) in Tan
  • 1.5" cobra buckle (not sure if they make a Tan version of this)
  • Front V ring used for attachment point. V-ring in titanium would be great

BTW, Loner, watch Disc 4, Magpul Dynamic Handgun. Gear => Belts. (around the 2:50 mark)

I ordered a Jones 1.5" because I like that it has velcro to secure the tail which not all have, was cheaper than some of the others, and appeared to have a shorter lead time.

Typically the 1.5" belts are using the 1" buckle like this (Ares shown). I would bet that Yates is simply doing the same thing.

I have one of those Ares ranger belts and they’re nice but what I’m looking for is a 1.5" instructors belt with a 1.5" cobra buckle. Picture this a 5 stitch Wilderness instructor 1.5" belt in coyote but swap out the buckle with a Cobra buckle. Yates seems to be the only one who makes them but has the V ring and is not available to civvies.

Everyone I’ve ever talked to in the nylon business has told me that there is no such thing as a 1.5" Cobra buckle. Until I see pics of one I’m going to assume they are all correct. That’s why everyone is doing it the same way as Ares & Jones with the 1" buckle and my bet is that Yates is too.

If that is the case you’re not going to be able to get what you want. What is it you find lacking in the 1.5 webbing with 1" buckle? Since I don’t have mine yet I’m not sure of the drawbacks and would like to hear your thoughts.

Going a bit OT…

Loner, I was able to find a solution to the tiny problem we had with our Ares belt…the extra belt material “just hanging there” after tightening the belt.
I was able to find one of those elastic garter “thingies” from an old Camelbak and just put it on the Ares belt. Problem solved:cool:

BTW, I had to post step by step pics because Loner couldn’t visualize what I was trying to explain over the phone.

scratch that… im retarded, was looking at another belt.
It did not have the elastic behind the latch though…which is a PITA when the inside slips out…

Whoever told you guys 1.5" cobras don’t exist is wrong. I’ve been using them for a while now. Here’s a pic of one on my 1.5" prototype belt I’ve been wearing for the last 4 months.

To be fair, that could have been as far back as 2006/2007, when I made my first Ranger belt. Part of the reason I came up with that design was because there was no 1.5" buckle available…I’m guessing it came out in the last few years. Alas, I am behind the times again…oh, to be young again… :jester:

Interesting. That’s exactly what I want. Essentially my Wilderness belt with a Cobra buckle.

Nothing wrong with the ranger belt, I like it. I just want another belt with a cobra buckle only and not have 2 layers of webbing behind the buckle.

+1 That’s exactly what I was talking about!

this concerns me too.

Nice. Is it rigid enough to be used as a pistol belt?
And now, the big question is…do you have any for sale?:smiley:
I’d be willing to buy one in Tan, 1.5", size 38:D
