Big Brown showed up today with my new M4 LE.
It looks identical to my M4 5.56.
This one has the ceramic finish. After wiping it down, the finish has a nice, even look to it. Pics do not do it justice
I opened the upper, pulled the charging handle and noticed the bolt/carrier took an extra tug to get out. I thought it was just a tight unit. When I pulled it and inspected the B/C I see CMMG is using a spring detent pin on the barrel collar and a groove one the barrel itself to keep the B/C from moving. Great Job.
That has been an issue with other dedicated uppers. If the B/C can move it will cause feeding problems.
I ran 2 mags suppressed in my basement for a function check.
It went through both mags without a hitch.
The gas deflector is also a nice touch. No more smack in the face from gas/powder.
The trigger is better than most I’ve tried from the factory. It’s not a match trigger by any means but not bad.
I’ll use the set screw mod on it and clean it up before heading to the range.
I am very happy with it. I’ll follow up after my range trip.
$550 complete rifle + $30 upgrade for stainless BCG
Here it is as it came.
I added the Carry Handle
Looks nice, let us know how it does.
I got to the range today with the CMMG M4 LE .22.
I can honestly say I’m impressed.![]()
700 rounds, not one malfunction with the exception of Remington Subs. They just will not feed.
Keep in mind, this is with a new stock G.I. trigger.
Ammo was:
Federal 550 Bulk 36 gr. HP
Federal Champion 40 gr.
CCI Mini Mag HP
CCI Stinger
Winchester 555 Bulk 36 gr. HP
Kind of windy, 90 degrees, low humidity
Range was 25 yards
UTG 1-4 X scope
Butterfly

Over 2000 rounds failure free with the exception of Remington Subs. It fired and cycled them but leaves so much build up on the ramp it starts to have chambering problems.
EEverything else has ran 100%.
I’ve used Fed Bulk, Win Bulk, Fed Champion, CCI Stingers, Mini Mags, Standards, V Max, and Eley Match.
Eley match gives me consistant rounds touching holes at 25 yards.
This is with the stock “blaster barrel”.
It’s really the most dependable AR .22 I’ve used. Accuracy is good with decent ammo. This one likes the Win 555 bulk for cheap. I’ve shot dime sized groups at 25 yards with it.
does the bolt lock back on a empty mag? and im assuming its all metal and weight’s like a “real” AR?
i really want a MP-22 so i am interested in this setup.
It’s made from the same upper and lower that a 5.56 AR is. The only weight difference would be in the BCG’s.
CMMG is about to release the bolt hold open adapter. It’s a simple drop in. It fits on the lower. The mags have to be set up for the BHOA with springs and followers.
These have been field tested for the last few months.
One thing I like working with them is John will not release something until the bugs are worked out.
I don’t know how CMMG was before I got involved with them in the last few months, but I like the mind set they have now.
An unbelievable amount of engineering and thought is being put into the Evolution series. Lots of up grades will be available.
Here is a link to better explain what is being worked on, tested, released, and coming.

Looks like the web site is down for changes.:dirol:
Is this a dedicated gun like the umarex or the 522? or can you swap the lower out?
Standard 5.56 lower. I tried it out on one of my 5.56 uppers.
You can also buy the upper seperately. About $350 but I would upgrade to the stainless bolt. I think there is a sale right now for $360 or there about.
I am at 2400 rounds with no failures (Rem Subs excluded)
Here is a 5 shot group with Eley Match. Thats with a 1 mil dot scope.
I finally got on the 50 yard range today for a short time.
CMMG M4 LE .22 complete rifle with stock barrel
Mueller 3-10 Sport Dot
TacSol Comp
17 mph wind S
Winchester 333
Eley Match
CCI Mini Mags
I’m still impressed with the accuracy in a blaster barrel. Reliability is outstanding. I now have 3150 failure free rounds down it.
Wow you’ve had NO problems??
Other than Remington Subs, no problems at all. The subs will run 10-15 rounds and leave enough gunk on the feed ramp to cause feeding problems. I can clean the ramp, run another 10-15 and the same.
But with all other Federal, Winchester, CCI, and Eley I’ve ran, no problem. It suprises me too.
I have one of CMMG’s conversion also. Same reliability, although I’ve not put near as many rounds through it. No problems.
It’s in the geometry of the bolt according to CMMG. Little differences you might not notice are making a big difference.
I’ve never had any semi .22 that was this reliable.
It even has a stiffer spring in it which other companies advise cutting and lightening to tune their conversions.
Not this one. I’ve used the conversion in a 7.5", 10.5" 11.5", and 16", suppressed and un suppressed. I had 3 FTE’s in the very first mag. None since. Probably have close to 1000 rounds through it.
It’s a lot of fun, especially when all you do is shoot instead of clear misfeeds and failures, which has been my findings with some other units.
Great…I just got my discontinued Spikes conv kit back in the mail again and waiting to see if it’ll run…Should’ve gone CMMG it looks like:(
Well hopefully it will run. ![]()
I’m a little long on AR15 .22s Shadow65, but those CMMGs are looking better all the time. If yours is any indication, it looks like they are not only reliable, but accurate too. The price is unbeatable for a fully functioning AR upper and lower.
The guys I’ve corresponded with are having about the same results.
There’s small and not so small differences that make them run this well.
I’ve talked with John some what and the amount of thought put into these is impressive.
And a friend of mine tells me I could break a ball bearing, so if there was a glaring issue with mine, it would have shown up.
And if it does, I’ll contact CMMG.
I’m thinking eventually, something has to go wrong, considering the amount of rounds I put through it. I average about 700 a week.
But as it is, it’s a blast to shoot.
I did drop a 2 stage CMMG trigger in it. It’s a little easier on my bum trigger finger.

Well shadow,
It’s all your fault! You’ve made such great reports on the CMMG that I ended up having to order an M4 LE upper. I didn’t upgrade to the stainless bolt. I’m going to wait until all the new goodies are available and then replace the whole bolt assembly with stainless. I already have 2 TacSols and a Nordic, so I need another .22 like I need an extra hole in the head. I sent CMMG one of my TacSol uppers so they could test it with their BHOA. That was a failure - the upper wouldn’t close on the lower with the BHOA in place. They promised me a free BHOA if I ever got one of their uppers, so I’m going to hold them to it! I hope mine works out as good as yours.
Tom
Tom… How’s your CMMG .22 running?
Shadow65… Any update on yours?
I’m considering going with an upper.
Mine runs great! I haven’t got to shoot it as much as I would like too. I probably have 600 trouble-free rounds through mine since I put the stainless steel bolt in it.
