Gents,
I purchased 2 CMC Shooting Star 8 round magazines and both of them failed to feed my SA 1911-A1 correctly. When releasing the slide, the first round would take a “nose dive” and get stuck just under the feed ramp. I tried both magazines and it happened both times. This has never happend to my factory SA Magazines or other brand. Was this a known problem with CMC Shooting Stars? Thanks for the help!
I have 2 8 rounders and 6 10 rounders and they feed my milspec, sst loaded, and lw champion operator without any problems. Could be a bad batch or your pistol.

When new they fed fine in several pistols.
After 5 or so years when the springs and followers were sacked out after years of shooting they started to malfunction like yours.
New springs and followers solved it.
Appreciate the comments guys! The followers in those mags tend to tip forward very easily, I figure that’s not the intended design. I will get some CMC Power Mags or Wilson Combat to see the the problem persists. It’s definitely not the pistol.
I’ve never used the Shooting Star models but the CMC Power mags are GTG as are the Wilson 47Ds.
The Shooting Star mags were CMC’s original 8-round magazine and have thinner spring wire and sheet metal than the Power Mags. They are ok for range use but not for serious use. As the others have suggested, either upgrade to stronger springs or ditch them and get some better mags.
I have used some CMC Shooting Stars with no problems but I have since converted them with Wilson kits. ![]()
Thanks guys! I returned the Shooting Stars and will invest in some Wilson Combat!
For what it’s worth, the CMC power mag and power mag + have been the best mags in two of my colts and the Springfield.
What he said :big_boss: . Personly I feel CMC power mags are top shelf and I wouldn’t let the shooting star mags make you jump ship. The Power mags are my go to mags and I wouldn’t change it because I got a bad mag or two. You may want to email or call him as his customer service is top notch and he will sort you out.

Thanks for all the knowledge guys! I’m going by the Gun Shop tomorrow armed with your recommendations!
I really like the Wilson 47D’s and you cant go wrong with them, but that being said I think the CMC PowerMags are 99% the mag of the 47D’s and at a better price allowing you two purchase nearly 3:2 versus the 47D’s. I have not tried the new Wilson Mags.
While not inexpensive, the Wilson ETM mags are excellent. I have several and they have never failed in any way.
I second the ETM mags I’ve had no issues with them and the ones I have seem to use stronger springs than my 47Ds. Although I also use those cheap “milspec” ones just for the range and they have been fine as well. I’ve never used CMC mags unfortunately.
I just had a factory-new 7-round Kimber mag (came with a new pistol) do the same thing, but have never had that happen to a CMC - and I’ve own several.
A heavier Wolff spring in my Shooting Stars made a big difference in their performance but for peace of mind, I’d go ahead with the previously mentioned magazine suggestions instead. Let us know what you end up with.
Interesting, I have never had a problem in any of my SA 1911’s with CMC shooting stars in particular. Give CMC a ring, I bet they make it right.
I use the CMC Power mags and they work just fine in my Springfields, Kimbers and Sig. You might just have a slightly weaker spring than most other mags.
In the future when your mags. no longer function don’t get new ones, just get a rebuild kit from Tripp Research and you will have no issues.
I have never had good luck with Wilson mags, that is until I replaced the guts w/the Tripp spring and follower. The Mccormick Power Mags are top notch and have never let me down.
