Clocking that last nth amount of barrel nut ...

3rd build, have read all Sweeny’s and Own all Zediker’s books on ARs and know enough to run up the barrel but and back off a few times to help seat the final attempt to achieve the required torque.

This build was just adding a 15" key mod railed forend ($55 from Delta Team Tactical) in place of the free-floated carbine forend, but the nut would not budge once ‘tight’. I ended up ‘dressing’ the ends of the threads, just removing any color with a few strokes of a diamond stone.

But there was NO WAY otherwise that I would have seated it to the next gas tube alignment hole above the minimum required torque otherwise.

What says the more experienced builders? What tips do others have to offer?

Can’t offer much about some 55.00 No Name Arms rail and barrel nut.

Yes, looks like that ‘shim kit’ is what was needed. Those are 0.002" shims Jon that kit if others are curious about them.

Regardless, I’m all set and headspace is fine and all live-fire tested this am.

FYI, the rail was an Omega Mfg rail, a knock-off of the Seekins Precision rails.

I just got some barrel nut shims from Bison Armory. I’ll be using them to install my NSR tonight. http://bisonarmory.com/ar-15-barrel-nut-shim-set/

The shim set performed as advertised. I was able to time my NSR with 32 ft/lbs using the shims. Would not have been possible without them.
