When I clean my weapons (those that are blued) they are generally wipe a very light of oil over the exposed surfaces and the bore, or use a silicone rag; the silicone rag is also used on my stainless hand guns. What about an AR with the ceracoat gun finish since they are generally not prone to rusting as blued guns are? This is a basic question but I thought I would ask.

Since the actual upper and lower receiver are aluminum you don’t have to worry about them rusting. I’ve never had a problem with my barrel showing rust but I have on my front sight base and flash hider. For those, a thin coat of oil works if I am so inclined.
The beauty of ARs is that cleaning is optional.
If you punch the bore twice, wipe off the BCG and lube generously, you’re in good shape.
Oh come on now, everyone knows that you must place the action parts in an UltraSonic Cleaner after every range session for an AR to run properly…
Your AR isn’t going to need as much tlc as you might think. Keep doing what you’re doing, and it’ll be fine…and believe me, I have the urge to clean mine after every range visit. I can’t help it, it’s the Marine in me. I went to the range on Saturday and my AR went straight to the safe. It’s been killing me not to clean it, but I know that it honestly doesn’t need it…well maybe just a little wipe down.
Once you get to 20,000 with no cleaning, the carbon and oil sludge looks like it works as a great lubricant. 
Really i’ll usually run a boresnake through a couple times, drop some oil on the BCG, and call it a day. Enough oil seems to work it’s way onto the trigger assembly, and I don’t have any reliability problems.
Your bore should be ok as most are chrome plates and resistant to rust. I have seen an M16’s FSB and external Barrel rust. That was on basic training rifles at FT Benning,GA. I’ve also seen rust form on M2s after a field problem. Nothing a little CLP didn’t cure. Grab a copy of the TM 9-1005-319-10 and check out section 9:Operation under unusual conditions for recommendation. Using the silicone cloth isn’t a bad thing, but surface rust on the outside of the barrel will not impact the weapons operation. Watch for rust in/around the sights and detents. I have no experience with CerraCoat.
I use this general rule of thumb*. I generally clean my ARs every 500-1000 rounds, or when I feel like it so sometimes they get into the 2k+ ranges. If running a lot of steel cased I might clean it a little more often, but it isn’t something I sweat things about. More concerned with cleaning my Glock than most of my ARs. My stainless heavy barrel gets a little more TLC, but not by much, mostly just more attention to cleaning the barrel. I figure, after Pat Roger’s ran Flithy 14 through how many Ks of rounds with no maintenance? I don’t worry about it.
*This is for non go to guns. For go to weapons they get cleaned and lubed after every trip, even if it is only wiping down and relubing, but my second, third, 4th, ect line guns are not cleaned on nearly as regular of a basis.
