Cleaning Locktight out of threads

I’m about to change locktighted rear sights between two guns as they will fill different roles. As I understand it Locktight works best when dealing with clean degreased threads. Is there a preferred(easy) method for cleaning the old stuff off? I recall it being a real bitch and rubbing alcohol and a nylon brush not cutting it.

a hair dryer, torch and if you can find a place that sells them, the picks dentists use for cleaning teeth work very well for getting old loc-tite off threads for me

I have a small wire wheel brush for my dremel that I use on male threads. Cleans it off in a few seconds. For the female threads I usually just leave it if there isn’t much but if there is a lot I chase it with a tap or just clean the screw/bolt for the hole and thread it in and out a few times. This generally loosens it up enough to where I can get most of it out with a Q-tip and alcohol. I haven’t had a problem with anything loosening even if there was a little bit left on the female threads. I just figure the stuff thats stuck in there and hard to get out will probably stay put and the loctite will just be adhering to itself so it doesn’t need to be perfect.

I use rubbing alcohol and a CLEAN toothbrush or copper brush and it seems to work for me just fine.

Dental pick and compressed air work well.

i’ve had good luck cleaning loctite out of thread with a tap (for female threads) or die (for male threads).

just chase the threads with the tap/die like you would if you were fixing them after they got a bit mangled.

I had to make due with a razor blade, luckily the threads were a little larger. Acetone did nothing.

birchwood casey gun scrubber and a rag.

The key is to get any oily residue off . a few shards of old loctite will not hurt.
