Cleaning bolt carrier group

I have a new RCBS ultrasonic cleaner. Just trying something different. Had large flakes coming out of the inside of my brass. Made me wonder how that would effect case capacity. any way a good excuse for a new toy.

back to my question. Any negatives to cleaning the bolt and bolt carrier in the ultrasonic cleaner?

I jacked up the finish on my Colt BCG doing this with one of those Chinese shit U/S cleaners. It’s blotched and goofy looking now. I won’t put anything other than silencer mounts into that thing anymore.

I use my Isonic P4830 for my AR bolts, pistol frames, small rifle and pistol parts and silencer. I have not had any issues with the finish coming off my parts. I have used simple green and Hornady One-Shot U/S cleaning solution and both seem to work well. It works extremely well on my silencer which gets pretty gunky even after only a short time shooting.

I will not drop a pistol slide into the tank, as I don’t trust I can get all of the water out…To me the biggest issue is getting all of the water off the parts after cleaning so corrosion doesn’t start.

I don’t have an air compressor but may pick one up for this purpose.

It cleans the wife’s jewelry really well too!

Be aware when cleaning AR bolts in an ultrasonic cleaner that cleaning residue and water can remain in a bolt with an assembled ejector. Be sure to thoroughly rinse the bolt and desiccate it.
Some cleaning solutions aren’t necessarily nice to many finishes. Plain old Dawn dish soap is pretty mild while cutting well and rinsing well, plus it’s dirt cheap. Purified deaerated water is preferred for rinsing. Soaking metal components in 100% isopropanol is my preferred desiccant. Remember to oil EVERYTHING, as any protection has been stripped away.

No need… just Lube it up good, she won’t mind operating while wet n nasty.

I think he’s actually looking to clean his BCG, not take the lazy way out.
