I’m reading it that once the shooter saw the guy he abandoned his efforts and once he cleared the stoppage he split his own wig.
As much as I want this to be the case, from the linked articles I didn’t see enough evidence to be sure that the ccw guy had much to do with it. All I saw is that he didn’t fire, he thinks the nutjob saw him, and he took cover. Maybe it did affect the shooter but that would be hard to prove.

From the report I believe that it’s wishful thinking that this CCW’er had any impact on the cessation of hostilities. My WAG is that he couldn’t clear the jam and decided to get out before someone jumped him and he ended up in rump rangervile. I can’t imagine a testicularly challenged coward faring all that well in prison.

Do we know what he shot himself with? If it was the rifle then he cleared his jam.
I agree this is hardly 100% conclusive evidence that the CCW guy contributed to ended the shooting. But at the same time if the same scant evidence suggested a CCW guy somehow contributed, caused or facilitated the shooting everyone would be picking it up.
If he got his gun cleared from the malfunction, then why did he not continue shooting? I think he saw Nick aiming at him at some point in this, and it broke his fantasy somehow, fearing his retribution was going to be put to an end and he wasn’t going to get his media attention. My take at least.
Reports said he had a lot of rounds on him+a high powered rifle going against a gun with a pistol=good odds for the bad guy. So why kill himself so soon?
The reason why the CCW didn’t shoot was because of rule #4. Contrary to the media, CCWers are very cognoscente of what they are doing, and it isn’t the wild west.
It’s not being picked up because it’s not a story. A CCWer may or may not have been seen by the bad guy. Maybe he saw the guy and decided to off himself, or maybe he realized what he was doing was evil and ended it, or maybe he thought the time he spent clearing the jam made it more likely police would get to him.
Whole lotta maybes, no real news.
Being as how it was a stolen gun he probably didn’t know much about them beyond video games.
Maybe so, but he cleared the malfunction and could have gone back to what he was doing. Instead he kills himself.
I believe the CCW holder, pointing his firearm at the guy, was the game changer and convinced the shooter his time to go on his own terms was then and now. I don’t think he wanted a hero taking his lime light away from him.
I agree, and the fact patterns of prior shooting support that. Soon as they are confronted, or even feel they are close to being confronted, the majority of them take their own lives. I’m surprised more here don’t see that reality and I’d bet beers your criminal psychologist who studies these events would confirm that conclusion,
Obviously, we will never know, but knowing the fact patterns of prior such events, knowing the general psychology of the type (who is strictly interested in victims and not armed confrontation, etc) and such, it’s more than plausible and likely why the death count was so low and the fact the major news refuses to cover that essential part of this event (as they NEVER cover in real depth armed civilian intervention in such events due to an agenda) is disgusting to me.
