Citizens forming posses as crime overwhelms police?

I didn’t want to just append this to the “Obama crime wave” thread since I don’t think this has anything to do with Obama, just the overall moral and economic decay of our society.

I also don’t know much about this publication, but I have heard “rumblings” of this from other sources.

You may think that talk of “armed posses” patrolling local communities is a little “out there”, but the truth is that it is already happening.

For example, a groups of residents in Josephine County, Oregon have formed “the CAC Patrol”. They have mounted flashing lights on to their vehicles and they openly carry guns as they patrol their neighborhoods…

There’s no room in the county jail for burglars and thieves. And the sheriff’s department in a vast, rural corner of southwest Oregon has been reduced by budget cuts to three deputies on patrol eight hours a day, five days a week.

But people in this traditionally self-reliant section of timber country aren’t about to raise taxes to put more officers on the road. Instead, some folks in Josephine County, larger than the state of Rhode Island, are taking matters into their own hands — mounting flashing lights on their trucks and strapping pistols to their hips to guard communities themselves. Others have put together a virtual neighborhood watch, using Facebook to share tips and information.

Some areas of the country that once had very little crime are now seeing crime absolutely skyrocket.

It’s worth visiting the link because the article details several shooting incidents.

I’m not sure if this is indeed something to be vigilant of, or if it’s just hype.

YMMV.

I read about those gents in OR last week. Makes since and why the hell not if you ask me.

Ever hear of The Detroit 300?

need to start hanging the criminals at the entrance to towns !
with a sign around them what they did !

Google: Nation of Cowards

(it does not call for this remedy, but does talk about our reluctance to defend ourselves and that we allow/tolerate crime)

I understand. (What the article is saying)

But that doesn’t translate to what Honu said. He isn’t the first one I have seen propose such drastic measures, and probably won’t be the last.

I’m getting quite sick and tired of this notion that has exited forever that as long as the “good” is doing something to the “bad”, it is morally OK.

For example: “That guy forced himself on a young child. He should be slowly tortured, have his eyes gouged out, penis and scrotum cut off, slowly sever each finger and toe, then be disemboweled”. I hear that kind of stuff all the time, from all sorts of people. It’s regarded as
“OK” because the guy committed the a bad act. “Justice” and pure evil is taken is taken into the hands of the “good” people because they are doing what is “right”.

The same parallels the “hang the criminals on the edge of town” statement. It’s “ok” for the “good” people to hang the “bad” people and barbarically public display them because they aren’t the ones who committed the “crimes”. (Not to mention how scary and frightening it would be for me to drive home through the city limits and see dead corpses hanging on a scaffold).

It is hypocrisy at its finest. Two wrongs don’t make a right. “Cruel and unusual” has no place in our society.

So what are your suggestions?
SSS?

 . . . :suicide:

Are you trying to say something?

There are 6 paragraphs and multiple points. What are you suiciding and bug-eyeing?

so someone rapes your kids what would you do to them ?

someone invades my home the second they come through that door my life and my families is in danger and they do not belong in my home ! most here would do the correct thing and stop the threat before they hurt myself or my family

the bolded part is funny !!!

maybe many of us are getting sick and tired of people like you sticking up for criminals and not wanting to do anything ! dont want to punish them and make you scared !!!

and folks like you are the big reason they keep doing this !

Crime has been on a steady decline since 1974 as has police deaths in the line of duty. I know we as gun owners love our escapist fantasies but reality is that we won’t be fighting off the mobs with our carefully chosen custom builds as our ill prepared liberal neighbors beg for help and we rebuild the republic…I can’t go on.

I read a report a while back, of a Neighborhood Watch in Charlotte going armed, because the guy that started it got robed at gunpoint, and wanted to “take back” his neighborhood. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear of more such reports, as time goes by…

Charlotte, NC? Have a link to that report?

From 2008:
http://www.wsoctv.com/news/news/south-charlotte-man-plans-to-start-armed-neighborh/nGz9y/

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Neighborhood watch groups are common, but one south Charlotte man is taking the concept one step further.

Scott Yamanashi, a social studies teacher at West Charlotte High School, is forming armed watches. He’s working with businesses in the NoDa, Plaza-Midwood, Dilworth and SouthEnd neighborhoods to patrol those areas.

He said, “We are not going out to engage anyone. We’re not going out to start trouble or try to go in and fix it. We’re actually just observers.”

Just my observations.

. During or after the act? If after, I WOULDN’T take justice into my own hands, even if I wanted too. I would have him prosecuted and punished through the proper judicial channels.

someone invades my home the second they come through that door my life and my families is in danger and they do not belong in my home ! most here would do the correct thing and stop the threat before they hurt myself or my family

I agree… this is much different than what my other post is about.

the bolded part is funny !!!

maybe many of us are getting sick and tired of people like you sticking up for criminals and not wanting to do anything ! dont want to punish them and make you scared !!!

Criminals should be punished through our judicial system like they are supposed to be as per our Constitution. They should NOT be punished by vigilante justice by citizens not authorized to do so.

My own personal observation, at least in this part of the country, is that private parties are invitations to fights where someone inevitably gets killed.

As for someone I catch on my property up to no good…remember that coyote I fed to the buzzards?

Never heard of that guy. There are a few guys doing similar things, but they drive around in a car and try to act like police to the point of having residents give them information on things in the neighborhood and not to us. This creates major issues for us for obvious reasons.

Exactly
