I’m having trouble finding companies that actually sell rifles with chrome lined barrels. It seems like when I go to a gun shop to look at the AR’s they have the dealers all say it has a chrome lined barrel when I ask them. then the website of that particular gun will say they offer both chrome lined and chrome moly or just chrome moly.
So can someone tell me what producers will 100% have a 1:9 twist chrome lined barrel?
Second question, which is going to pretty dumb, but just to make sure Im gonna ask it. Smith and Wesson’s website says this for some of its guns:

So if it says it as a chromed barrel bore that means it has a chrome lined barrel right?
Also, some of the guns on the site say

Barrel Bore, Gas Key, Bolt Carrier, Chamber
Does the chamber have anything to do with the barrel being chromed or not?
If you bring a flashlight with you to the gun store, lock the bolt back, shine the flashlight in the ejection port at the chamber. If it is chrome lined, you will see a dull gray ring around the chamber opening.
Most uppers sold in shops are shit because most consumers cant tell the difference between a DPMS and a Colt, so it is not the dealers interest to sell expensive top notch gear when they can stick a YHM rail on an RRA upper and make the sale faster.
No its more of a dull color. If you look inside of a bolt carrier where the bolt goes you’ll see its like a gray color. Thats chrome lining. Not all chromed surfaces are shiny like dubs.
I also 2nd buying online so you know exactly what you are getting, and aside from a few shops most of the good stuff is sold online anyways.
Online shopping is your best bet. Most reputable internet sales companies have great descriptions of what they are selling. And if you’re unsure about the description, you can always call them.
Is it possible to tell if a barrel is lined by using the model number? I have a AR6721.
I also acquired a Colt upper that the guy said came off of the civilian version of the M4. It has all the proper Colt markings according to the info available on this site shared by all of you good folks. It does not have any reference to lining.
If indeed it did come off of that, is it chrome lined?

Just curious, but why does it have to be chrome-lined? The last 3 AR’s I’ve had didn’t have a C.L. barrel. As long as you keep em’ clean it shouldn’t be an issue. I’m just wondering what the advantages are in your opinion.

While the top one you listed is not chrome lined, the barrel has been nitrocarbuerized aka melonite. From what I understand melonite/tennifer/nitrocarbuerization is more corrosion resistant and wear resistant than chrome lining. The real question with that model is how is the quality contol, and is the chamber a true 5.56 I’d almost be willing to say that particular model may make the perfect truck/trunk gun. Inexpensive and simple with quality manufacturing methods used. I am definitely waiting to hear some consumer reviews on that particular model along with torture tests.
Yes this is true that the process is supposed to be even better then a chromed barrel but, I just wanted to point out that not all S&W M&P AR’s have a chromed barrel.
I have read a number of threads that people were asking “Well if it’s better”? “Why doesn’t the Military use it”? I have read it cost more to do it that way to?
