Hey guys, Hows it going? I have a small Dilemma and I’m hoping you guys can help me. I’m Trying to Decide which Type of Weapon Light to buy and install in my rifle, is it better to have a weapon light like the Surefire x300 or is it better to buy a surefire hand held flashlight and install it with a mount?
Any help would be Greatly Appreciate it, Thanks to everyone who takes the time to read this.
I have a Streamlight TLR 2 it’s really bright is LED which means it has good battery life and a laser. You can get the TLR 1 it doesn’t have the laser and it will mount on a picatinny or 1913 rail.It comes with the mounts.
Up to preference. I prefer a LED surefire flashlight on an offset mount to cast the shadow of the barrel more out of the way (up or down depending on how it’s mounted).
I have an x300. Very versatile in that you can use it on your rifle or take it off and mount on your pistol. It’s an excellent weapon light, very bright and very good throw. IMO, one of the best values out there. I don’t think you can go wrong with an x300.
I also have a couple of Surefire G2s in Vltor offset scout mount. This is a great setup for my limited uses and is cheaper than the x300 by about $125. The G2s are great to have around the house for other uses as well.
The best weaponlight bang-for-the-buck would be a Surfire G2 LED in your choice of mount.
M4C Cliche: It depends on your uses; is this a defensive weapon? What are you mounting it to? What sort of optic are you using? Are you using a VFG? What sort of budget are you working with?
I’m using this as a Defensive Weapon, my rifle its an AR15 with a daniel defense omega rail, Using a Eotech 511, Im Using a Stubby VFG, and last but not least Im trying to keep it under $200.
That depends on your setup and your finances. A G2 in something like a VLTOR mount is relatively inexpensive to boot. Personally I use the G2 with LED elements on my carbines. If I had a 12:00 mounting option I’d be using an X300.
I’m assuming you have the carbine length Omega with a standard front sight base, correct?
If so, the G2 might be more cost effective than the X300…although the X300 is super nice.
Yeah that’s is the setup I’m running at the Moment, BTW if i choose to buy the X300 do i need to buy a separate mount for it? or does it attach to the rails on its on?
The X300 will mount to the DD rail on it’s own…but outfits like LaRue make a QD lever mount if you like that functionality. The X300 makes for a great carbine light.
I’ve looked a lot into this topic and the X300/X400 are great weaponlights. I am also one of those guys who always has a 6PLED on me or next to my bed. You won’t go wrong with the handhelds, but a great deal is the TLR-1 and remote switch kit from Botach tactical.com----you have a pressure pad and battery door for the TLR-1/2 and can actuate it from a VFG or put velcro on the switch and put it directly on the weapon somewhere. Works very well, and I’m putting my TLR-1 on my 6.8 build as soon as it’s completed.
What works for me is the SF.X300 mounted on my rifle at twelve o’clok. I also have/utilize the SF.M2|SF.6Z w/Malkoff Devices drop-in LED. Of course Your Methods May Vary accordingly so!
You may also find that two lights with the same lumen rating will have a different “throw”. One may project a tighter beam further while the other may have a wider dispersion and therefore a shorter range. The X300 will fall in the latter group.
There are light-geek forums where they go into great detail on all of this. I’ve been trying for quite awhile to come up with a more basic and simple approach with a few of the more commonly used weaponlights but haven’t had the time. The goal is to take 3-4 of the most popular lights with similar lumens and get photos of the throw at a few different distances.
Thanks for all the great Responses fellas, i’ll definatly look into this some more,at the moment im leaning towards the x300, because of all the great reviews its getting as soon as i get it i’ll post a picture of it mounted in my rifle so you guys can see, Again thanks to everyone for all the help.
I have a Surefire E2D that I love, but it also gets a lot more use than a weapon mounted light would. Can the streamlight be relied upon to work when I need it?
It is hard to beat a Surefire G2 LED with a VTAC mount. The entire package is about $85 plus shipping. If you want even more light, the Malkoff drop in LED is another $50 (I get mine from Tactical Design Labs). I run three of these setups, one on my duty rifle for over a year, and I’ve yet to break one.
I agree. I have a G2 mounted in a Viking Tactical mount. Great light and a great mount both for short money and that is a plus too! The mount was about $25 and the light was about $36. I plan to upgrade to the G2 Led soon.
I have the X300 on my Glock 22 and a G2 Led on my duty belt. The G2 is much brighter 80 or 85 lumes V 60 for the standard6P/G2.
I’ve carried Sure Fire lights at work since 1992, they are simply Awesome lights. I still have my old 6P, it’s in my pistol safe with with my first Glock, no light rail on that gun.
I am all for saving money too, but we are talking $36 for a Surefire G2 and $25 for a viking light mount. I’m not sure how you could save any more and it is a. Quality setup that will do what you need. Practice ammo is obviously important but positively identifying your target is required. You can not do that in the dark with out a light.
