Choices...Stag or BM? Help me out!

Had my heart set on a Stag but the store is out. They have BM’s, but I haven’t studied up on them too much.

Should I get the BM XM15E2S w/A3 upper or wait on a Stag?

Thanks

Wait on the Stag. It is cheaper and equal or better than the BM.

There used to be a thread here comparing the popular manufacturers point y point.

What’s the Stag got over the BM? Better QC, higher grade metal?

I personally believe that Stag has a better BCG (even though they are not staked properly). Then again, most of the BM BCG’s I have seen as well are not staked well either.

They also use Mil-Spec Receiver Extension.

For those two reason alone, I would go with the SA AR.

Another vote for the stag. i do own a bushmaster…

I would also get a Stag. I’m really impressed with my 2L model.

I’d say Bushmaster… But with some upgrades…

I’ve got a Stag Mil-Spec Receiver Extension on a BM lower… Best of both?
I’ve never had (to date) any problems with my Bushy but did change out the stock because I wanted the extra strength found on the mil-spec threads and tube size that the Stag offered and I added an “H” buffer.
I have not seen any BM stocks break off so I’m not sure if it is a real issue or not.
You can always change out the BCG to a LMT or CMT if your that worried about it. I’m still running the BM BCG but I also upgraded the extractor spring and replaced the extractor insert with a black one Vs. the blue one.
The Mag-pul trigger guard is a nice addition also.

Thanks all,

Life is a lot simpler with my issued M4. Don’t have so many choices on features or parts quality. Even though the are Colt’s, we perform pre-issue inspections on them when received.

All this talk about unstaked gas keys and buffer extensions amazes me. I can’t believe manufacturers can’t take 5 minutes to do that before sending these things out the door!

+1:confused:

The list goes on! Manufacturers don’t take the time to stake castle nuts either (use red loctite instead)!

Not to mention dremel tooling in M4 feed ramps in receivers, but we won’t go into that.

Well,

I got a good deal and bought the BM.

16" M4 profile
Staked Carrier key and castle nut
Removable carry handle w/rail
1:9 Bbl Chromed
M4 ramps

Put a few rounds through it last Saturday for functioning (Fed Red Box 55 gr FMJ and S&B FMJ).

Worked fine

Now on to the optics needed…any suggestions (Aimpoint is out). Just something to use at the range and maybe compete with.

I’m considering Burris XM 135, S.P.O.T, or maybe the Burris Fastfire.

Thanks for all the help.

The SPOT represents about the best value/reliability in a plinking optic IMHO.

Got some pics of the stakings and ramps? Which extractor spring assembly did it come with?

I think that config is odd as well. Might be one of their contracted patrolmans AR’s.

Sorry guys,

I staked the gas key and nut with a punch. Not as good a factory, but hopefully it will do. If not I guess I’ll get the MOAKS.

Extr is normal type.

Feedramps - Looked at the pics again, and they do not look like M4’s.

But hey,

So far it works!

I have a BM Patrolmans 16" A3 that has feed ramps, but was told by BM rep that they are not “M4” ramps but some contract profile, I will dig up the email.
I bought mine NIB in Feb 07.

  Officer XXXX,
That was a part of the Texas Department of Public Safety contract and the Texas individual officers firearms. They are an M2 feed ramp as they are different than M4 feed ramps. The standard 16" M4 Patrolman's carbines do not have them. The O.R.C., gas piston and 6.8 SPC carbines have them at this time.

        Thank you,

What’s a “M2 feed ramp?”

M2 ramps— hell if I know, it just has ramps machined into the upper as well as barrel extension, I thought they were M4 ramps and emailed them asking when they started to put them in new guns and got that response.

I did buy it from an LE distributor using my agency ID.
