Chinese (Norinco) SKS

Bought this the other day, since it seemed in outstanding condition and I’ve never owned a Chicom SKS. All serial numbers match and the bore looks mint. I have been told that the bayonet probably should be a spike instead of a blade, but who knows?

Do these things get decent accuracy?

as best as I can see from this angle, it should indeed be a spike bayo. I thought Cheaper than dirt had them? might check on that.

Theya re fun shooters, cheap to shoot and do get decent accuracy.

It depends on when it was manufactered.

The stock is cut for a spike bayonet.

Very early Chicom SKS’s had blade bayonets, but the vast majority have spike bayonets. They’re not that hard to find.

After 1989, they were imported without the bayonets.

Feed it Wolf/Tula/Bear and accuracy will be OK. Feed it some good stuff like Winchester, Lapua or Hornady and accuracy will be pretty good to great. Nice score.

Make sure your firing pin moves smoothly and easily.

Many SKS’s came in so packed with grease/cosmoline that the firing pins would get stuck forward, resulting in a slam fire when the bolt carrier is released onto a live magazine.
