Nobody expected Saturday’s Operation PUSH protest at Chuck’s Gun Shop & Range to be anything other than a circus of the bizarre. However, nobody anticipated that an address by a Chicago priest would include a call for the murder of a suburban gun shop owner and legislators who oppose gun control.
During an address at an anti-gun rally in front of Chuck’s, Rev. Michael Pfleger, pastor of St. Sabina’s Church, exhorted the crowd to “drag” shop owner, John Riggio, from his shop “like a rat” and “snuff” him.
Rev. Pfleger went on to tell the crowd that legislators that vote against gun control legislation should be “snuffed” as well. As many know, “snuff” is slang for especially violent murder.

“Certainly Fr. Pfleger has offered Absolution to a murderer or two during his tenure as a priest,” commented ISRA Executive Director, Richard Pearson. "That’s why it’s shocking to hear him actually advocate the murder of a gun shop owner who has never committed a crime in his life.
He then compounds the problem by calling for the murder of legislators who disagree with his personal political views – something I suspect is a felony in this state. Pfleger’s comments were disgusting and dangerous. And, I seem to remember that the Fifth Commandment frowns on murdering one’s neighbor."
I actually didn’t know it was slang for “especially violent murder.” Is this opposed to “less then violent” murder, or “not so violent murder.” What exactly constitutes a “snuffing” as opposed to say “whacking” or “dropping in the back 40”?

Im assuming a catholic church, but hey, I don’t really know. I mainly meant that if you spew liberal ideas out of your mouth in chicago, their legalness, or lawfullness is not going to be an issue.
Because none of them have threatened the lives of congress people before.

This “priest” did this as a calculated move to get a reaction. IE reactionary politics. He said what he said to get his little crowd of “single issue citizens” all worked up and feeling righteous, but he also did it equally because he KNEW that we all would be talking just like we’re talking right now about this. That people would threaten and bully non believers in gun rights into leaving the argument. That Bill and Sean and Glen and Rush would take it up on their reactionary talk shows, and thus 1. His name would get out there, 2. It would add further fuel to the fire for these single issue citizens.

I on the other hand spent the day talking about ARs with a good friend of mine on the Right that is rational about politics, and a contributing member of this society, then drove twenty miles away and ate dinner with a family of centrist catholics who are rational about politics and contributing members of society, two social liberals, and an atheist who are also all rational about politics and contributing members of society. That is what America is, people working together despite our differences!
Your right, looks like it had recently been reposted. Funny how it took me three years to hear about it. I pride myself on keeping up with stuff like this. What makes it worse is that this happend during the campaign and it wasnt reported on.
I’ll admit I’m not an expert on the polity of all Christian churches, but in the denominations I’m aware of when a priest/preacher advocates murder he’s generally given a pretty stern talking to.

I for one, if I placed you and me physically in a room full of people and you walked up to me out of nowhere because of something you overheard and said “You should leave shit bag”, would take that as a threat. And I think most people actually would.
