chest rig

I’m looking for a chest rig for my three gun matches. I’m tired of putting everything on my belt. I’m simply overwhelmed at the number of options. I’m the kind of guy the wife sends to wal-mart for toothpaste and I spend 15 min’s looking at every brand on the aisle until I make up my mind.

I need help picking out one and finding a place that I can buy it with paypal as I have a little cash there.

I run two or three AR mag’s, I need a duty belt to attach to the rig so I can put my shotgun shell and pistol mag carrier (Raven) on. Any suggestions?? Thanks.

Check out SKD.

As the other’s have mentioned, take a look at the offerings by SKD. They’re GTG.

I went with the Camelbak Delta 5, http://www.camelbak.com/Military-Tactical/Packs/Delta-5-Tactical-Vest.aspx

As for a chest rig that attaches to a belt, there aren’t many. Do you want to carry anything other than mags on the chest rig?

If not I would look at the Blue Force Gear 10 Speed Chest Rig seen here:

Another option would be the ATS Low Profile Chest Rig seen here:

You can go with a completely MOLLE set up with the Tactical Tailor Mini MAV and add whatever pouches you want.

All of these ate good quality rigs that will last and won’t break the bank. I have all of them and they are good in their own way. If you have any questions about them feel free to ask.

I like your US Grunt Gear rig. Are the 2 M4 mag pouches also sewn to the rig like the BFG pouch? As you said you can add mag pouches to the rig; what ones have you added? I would suggest a Blue Force Gear Ten Speed Double M4 Mag Pouch. That way you can just leave it there and don’t have to worry about moving stuff around .

What about the original variants by the Soviets and Chinese?

It’s not a history lesson, it’s a history of lessons learned. Let’s not get bogged down in the minutia.

Yes, the pouch for the TKN! and the mag pouches are all hard-stitched to the rig.

I actually don’t like the 10-speed. I see the application for it in some people’s role, but for me it doesn’t offer anything and has some drawbacks. If I could get some elastic stitched to the front of the mag pouches in place of the MOLLE to offer the same functionality I might feel differently.

I also haven’t had a need to add more mags, and when I need more mags on my person I just strap on my first-line belt. But I’ve mocked up the ITW fastmags on the front of the hard-stitched pouches and they seem to work fine.

It’s just my opinion, but if I was going to wear something that big it would have armor in it.

Now you have to buy rifle ammo pouches to put on it. Go to the previously mentioned websites and buy something that’s actually in stock now. Call to verify that they’re in stock to be sure. I just received today, some great pouches that I ordered on 3/4/2011. I had the time to wait for delivery, but you may need them soon now that spring is here.

I bought one of these a couple weeks ago. The quality is there, as is the affordability.

Of coarse you can add extra pouches, etc.

Yeah, I ordered this from Botech and they just called earlier today and said the pouches were 2 to 3 weeks out. It’s amazing how much of demand for shooting accessories, et al is out there today.

Cotton and canvas, modern western materials such as DuPont’s 1000 Denier Cordura offer superior performance. Any top tier gear manfacturer will only use premo fabrics constructing their respective products.

Have you considered a MOLLE type belt? I just set up an ATS tactical war belt for 3 gun and it’s the cat’s meow. Easy on and off, no fumbling with attaching gear to belt or stashing stuff in your pockets.

I went with the 2x TACO rifle/pistol mag combo on the left side, a dump pouch just to the right , and a Serpa holster with a MOLLE adapter for my pistol. For shotgun stages I put a shotgun belt above it, and for the 45+ shotugun shell stages  I dump a box of shells into the dump pouch. I have run it a few times now and for 3 gun it just works.

For a training rig, I had been running a US Grunt Gear Warhog belt as a first line. That’s it, everything on the belt. But, I was getting a fairly heavy load on the belt. So this year I have experimented with using a 1st and 2nd line set-up. I’m now also using a BFG 10 Speed Chest Rig over an Eagle LVAC with BALCS cut soft armor. I like the combination so far. I feel a bit more balanced having the weight spread out and not all concentrated on my hips. The 10 Speed is light weight, easy on & off, cost effective, sucks down flat when empty and it does not get in the way (the main reason I had avoided any chest rig in the first place).

The 10 Speed will hold more than just M4 mags though. I only use the 4 center pouches for mags. The 2 other pouches hold a CAT tourniquet and a 6" Israeli bandage. The elastic pouches will also hold 2 M9 mags if needed.

Very true. I use it down range and carry an MBTIR in one and sometimes a smoke or frag. It is a very versatile rig.
