The Specter Gear rig is one of the lightest and most streamlined. It is also cut to carry the load higher up, where the breastbone can support the weight (no mashing of boobs, guts, etc.)
The pockets can hold three mags for either AR’s or AK’s – I’ve used mine for both extensively and without undue where. The pocket flaps are removable, leaving the elastic band around the body of each pocket that is plenty of retention for light activity, such as an intro training course.
In lieu of recent events, I’m thinking of getting a bullet proof vest/plate carrier for her.
She’ll probably will not carry pouches or any other gear, just the plate carrier.
She is around cup C-D, it varies accdg to her. She’s small around less than 5’6" around 160lbs
We are on the same mission now (my wife is a DD chest) I will let you know how the plate carrier works (brand size etc) out once we have it to her liking. Best of luck, also great idea with going to plates. (in my non-professional opinion.)
We have a TAG Banshee PC with shooters cut single curved steel plates that fits her nicely. IT positions the plates up right where they need to be and to quote her: “Is comfy for a little while.” We have yet to run it thru a class I will update with more info later.
I actually emailed her about how thorough her review was. It’s great to have females reviewing the gear - it’s a tough market for them. I know a lot of women that wear armor and they have very slim picking when it comes to things that fit a woman’s curves. The two best are - from Female end users that have emailed us about their experiences - The Mayflower APC and that BAE RBAV-AF. As for chest rigs I find that females prefer a battle belt since it doesn’t interfere with their physique.
hopefully she would reply to your email.
it’s hard enough to convince wife she NEEDS one, let alone get over the price.
So if Rebecca can post some PROs and CONs, maybe the wives could be convinced.
I am so glad this topic came up. I am also looking to get a chest rig and when funds allow plate armor. I am smaller then most women in the chest area (people mistake me for a guy most times…what can I say I love jeans and a overshirt…more comfortable that way). I am going to check out the sites mentioned and see what they have. I would be using the rig for a carbine class I hope to take this summer. I have been shooting since high school and have recently gotten back into it.
The HSGI Taco pouches are absolutely ideal for someone who is going to shoot both an AK and an AR. I can’t help with chest rig for a woman, but get something that just has PALS webbing and slap some tacos on there.
DISCLAIMER: we are not MIL or LEO. Purpose is for SHTF.
I went got the Banshee based on price @ SKD. If it was a miss, it’s not a big bill to swallow. PRO side, affordable enough to get two, for me and wife.
So my PC arrived yesterday. I had my wife try first. Her Height of 5’4"is irrelevant with this PC. With her, we started with shoulder adjustment, to get the right height. The top reaches her sternoclavicular area ( top of sternum meets clavicle ), and bottom, reaches past her umbilical area, al biet, with a soft armor inserts, it does angle a bit due to her C Cup area (36-38)
Her complaint (w/o rifle plate) is the weight (+ medium soft armor) Until, we kept adjusting the cumberbound. Once fitted properly, she claims, the PC weight becomes tolerable, or lighter.
This is just the PC, no gear but a knife/ dagger.
When it becomes available, I’ll get another Banshee, with medium size @ front and large @ back hard plates
If she’s comfortable, I’ll post pictures.
Hope this helps concern husbands, dads, and our few female MIL/ LEO.
Dyneema = ~10% lighter laminate, at a higher price.
Kevlar = thicker woven fabric with better performance against contact shots
Discussion is in 2011, and not sure if this still applies.
My new concern is with wife’s concern for weight. Should I give her a break and get the lighter Dyneema for her PC?
