The new Rock Island M1911s have incredibly annoying, overstated billboards on the slide and I can’t stand them. I want it gone, destroyed, or rendered unnoticeable. How?
Sell it to someone who doesn’t care. For the mobey it will cost to grind it of and refinish you might as well go buy a made in the USA 1911.
sharpie.
Sell it and buy one with a rollmark you like.
Sell it. Real cheap, in fact, it makes you money.
Now other options:
- buy a new slide and fit to the frame
- if rollmarks are not deep they can be milled off by a real good 'smith
Any attempt to fill the rollmarks with anything you will need to refinish. And now you’ve limited yurself the type of finish depending on compatibility of fill material to base piece.
Short answer, live with the rollmarks or sell/trade for a model you do like.
YEs this, to much sanding and its not worth it at all. Why did you buy it?
Surface grind both sides of slide. $100
Parkerize slide. $50
Bingo. Not a big deal to remove most roll marks. They’re not that deep
I hit it with some wonder blue and it toned it down to the point that it is barely noticeable.
If you just concentrate on the sights like your supposed to the rest is insularity.
Another thing to consider is the resale value would probablybe less with no roll mark. Most buyers prefer used guns in original condition.
I had the slide markings removed from an STI Lawman that was used as a custom base gun. Professional surface grinding offers a quick solution, as Chuck has indicated. It’s not especially difficult to eliminate them, so long as the rollmarks are of relatively uniform depth.

I had the same thing done when I had a Kimber overhauled:

Janitor think I’ve asked this before but, where did you get those grips? Who did the overhaul? Thanks.
Dunno where you’d get those grips anymore. Sorry
Drake Oldham did the work on that gun - Kart barrel, logo removal, checkering, new beavertail, custom profiled Heinie sights, magwell opened up, fitted extra S&A magwell, melonite
I regret letting that one go
