“Unintentional injuries” must also include unintentional firearm injuries then.
How many lives has the healthcare system saved compared to guns? I don’t actually know the number, but I’d assume that guns are closer to 1:1 saved:killed, maybe even 5 or 10:1 (pulling a gun to scare someone who would have knifed you had you not), while the healthcare system is in far excess of 100:1.
So where in the Bill of Rights does it mention health care, or automobiles, or tobacco, or alcohol? It doesn’t, but the individual right to keep and bear arms does. It is SPECIFICALLY put in there for a reason. That reason is no less important than any of the other rights listed, and a good argument can be made that it is the MOST important right.
Too often the conversation about the 2nd Amendment seems to have the undercurrent of treating the right to keep and bear arms as if it’s on a par with a drivers license. The right to keep and bear effective arms is directly tied to your right to preserve your own life. Morally, licensing or confiscating guns is like licensing or confiscating air, or food, or water. Politicians who claim some kind of “authority” to do that are telling us that the lives of you, me, our children, etc are not as valuable as their lives… which are being protected by highly trained men who carry effective arms.
Not all homicides are criminal acts. How many of the homicides were ruled justified in lawful self defense shootings? Some of them are undoubtedly LEO involved shootings. They would not be a criminal acts and should not be considered a negative aspect of firearm ownership.
I would like to know the number of UNLAWFUL homicides committed with a firearm. I would think the number would be less than 11,000.
Are we to believe that those inanimate objects loaded themselves, pointed themselves at human beings, and activated their own trigger mechanisms to commit those homicides?
My choice of semantics is confusing you? You thought I was saying that these firearms committed the homicides by themselves, without human intervention?
