Charging handle modification

I have seen references to a charging handle modification that has someting to do with reducing the gases discharged to the rear. Any truth to this urban legend?:help:

If you are talking about applying RTV to the top of the charging handle, then yes.

I’m a visual person. Any chance of a description of the mod with pictures?

you could try a PRI gas buster charging handle.

Simple to do, too. I’ve done this RTX silicone treatment to all of my Gunfighter charging handles, for the benefits of the GF – but now with additional gas blocking effectivess for suppressed use. Kudos to Jeff Carpenter for coming up with it. It works!

not to be a dick but even he says he found it online a decade ago and that mod has been around since the days of Sionics.

Very well then! Kudos to Jeff Carpenter for passing it along on his site, and saving some of us money for ammunition. Thanks for clarification.

a few years ago, there were some guys over on ar15.com that were having good sucess at drilling a hole in the right side of the charging handle that redirected the gas when firing suppressed. Worked better than the specialty Charge Handles. Ill look around and see if I can find the post.
