I have a few ARs and all but one are 5.56. The one that is not is a Les Baer Super Varmint chambered in .223. This is a nice rifle with a 20" bull barrel, Picatinny hand guard and a Versa bipod. I bought it new years ago and have never shot it. It’s been sitting in my safe. I was going to sell it and get a full size AR in 5.56 like a Colt AR15A4 (my others are M4 carbine style). Someone I know suggested having the Les Baer rechambered to 5.56. Neither of us know if this can be done or is even a good idea.
I agree, sell it and get something you’ll use. Still, I do wonder if maybe a rechamber to .223 Wylde would be possible - would make an awesome setup I bet.
Sell it and buy a rifle that interests you. The Les Baer sounds like a nice rifle you could get a good price for, especially since it’s never been fired. The best rifle is the one you enjoy shooting the most.
As an aside, aren’t nearly all chambers surface treated or least hardened? So reaming the chamber could grind off the surface treatment and shorten the life of the barrel?

I would suggest selling instead of a re-chamber as LB is asking over $500 for new barrels these days. They are good barrels for hunting and precision work, but wouldn’t want to use one for heavy range work or running suppressed. Do you know the twist rate? The SV is offered in 1:7 - 1:12.
If it is new/unfired, I would highly recommend AGAINST modifying it. It could be re-chambered to 5.56, but it is probably not worth the trouble. If you have not fired it in a few years, then you just aren’t that into this rifle. For as much as those Les Baer ARs cost new, sell it so you can buy, or build an excellent example of whatever it is you really want. As it sits (unfired) it is worth a high percentage of its’ original price. Sell it instead of devaluing it and making it into something you sorta want to shoot.

The comments mirror what I thought. Selling it is a better idea than changing it. Hopefully the Les Baer will have good value. It was advertised as having 1/2 MOA accuracy at 100 yards and came with a target from test firing showing that accuracy. Comes with a soft case, Jewel trigger, 20" bull barrel, full Picatinny hand guard and a quick detach Versa bipod. I even have the original Les Baer box it shipped in. Anyone have an idea what a good price would be?
Keep an eye on the Equipment Exchange. When I get home next week I will be listing it for sale and then getting something like the Clot AR15A4 which I will shoot. Thanks again.
If I were you I would list it at Snipershide. There a lot more guys that care more about accuracy and less about combat readiness than here. Maybe think about Gunbroker too. If you go that route I can put you in touch with guy who does GB auctions for a living. He knows how to photograph, price and market guns. He has sold several guns for me at prices for more than I thought they were worth. He has an FFL so you can feel safe shipping them to him.
If you keep it, I wouldn’t re-chamber it, the .223 chamber will be the most accurate provided you use .223 ammo. It isn’t a combat type of rifle, but a varmint rifle. Or, sell it and fund a sweet SPR.
