Hey, I was curious about what kinds of coatings people are using on their optics, primarily wondering what optics can handle the bake of cerakote
I have an aimpoint H1 that I had bake cerakoted and a Trijicon TR-24 that was air dry cerakoted. That lne can’t handle Heat past about 170F or so IIRC
Anybody bake cerakote their nightforce NXS optics? I called nightforce and all they said was that they don’t have data on the subject and couldn’t say if the heat would hurt the optic, and that any mods would void the warranty.
My hunch would be to simply spray paint it. Cerakoting is great for guns and parts, but since it involves sand blasting the surface, and then baking in the Cerakote at a substantial temperature), I would hesitate doing optics. Lots of smaller parts and mechanisms inside an optic, and materials other than metal.
If your heart is really set on it, maybe try it first on a much cheaper optic, and see how it handles it. Then think about doing it to a first class optic like the NF.
I still wouldn’t do it though.
Alternative firearms coatings did my mk18, on his price sheet I saw options for doing optics. I’m not sure if he does it with the air dry or what but I just sprayed mine with aerovoe.
Thank you for the responses. Yes, I’ve used the air cure for my trijicon optic which can’t handle the bake. The purpose of this thread was to find those that actually risked their optic to bake cerakote and find out how it turned out
