Cerakote | Desert Sand Kimber Ultra Carry II

My birthday came around so i decided to give it a facelift. I contacted Cerakote who put me in contact with one of their best applicators in Florida and i couldn’t be happier, now it looks and shoots beautifully.

those grips go with the finish really well.

any idea why the original finish wore off and started rusting?

My best guess is: the finish was just poor from factory.

I’ve read that it’s not too uncommon with Kimber barrels due to the materials used (they need to be properly lubed) but have not seen such a thing on the slide.

To be honest, i was a bit upset at first but it has worked well so far and I didn’t loose too much sleep over it.

Glad it worked out in the end, but nevertheless.

On a separate note, I love FDE. I got a Sig Scorpion for that fact, and am looking at Desert Warrior…oddly enough by Kimber.

My father in law had the same issue as you with the slide on his Pro Carry II but in his case Kimber stood behind there product and solved the issue. No problems since.

My Pro Carry had some rust issues on the barrel but that problem is contained for now. It seems they have some issues with materials and/or the finishing process at the factory. That being said, I love my Kimber and would/do trust my life to it every day… But I don’t know that I would buy another. I have since discovered used Springfield 1911s, best deal on earth haha

That FDE pistol looks bad-ass.

Makes me wanna krylon a Glock.

I had a Kimber Custom II that was brand new and after one 3 day class was showing rust on the side of the slide from holstering and sweat.

After owning Glocks for years I could not believe how weak the finish was on the Kimber. I called and they offered to refinish the slide for free, after basically scolding me for improperly maintaining the gun. The gun was barely a week old. It shot great, I had about 7k rounds through it when I sold it.
