I am wanting to build a new upper to double as a coyote and defense gun.My question is can I expect with good hand loads, to have as good accuracy with the Centurion Hammer forged barrel as say the BCM Stainless 410 barrel both of these are 16 inch barrels?I am looking to shoot inside of 300 yards and would like to have the most accurate barrel I can get.
-16inch mid length, light weight.
-cold hammer forged
-M4 extended feed ramp
-1:7 right hand twist with 5.56 Chamber
-tapper bore
-HP/MPI tested
-Extra thick Chrome lining
-Mil Spec Phosphate finish
-Guaranteed capable of 1 MOA or better accuracy with proper ammunition
-Service life three times a standard barrel
-1lb, 9.9oz. stripped / 1lbs, 11.8oz with pinned Centurion Arms gas block
I can’t post lots of groups and targets but can give you my experience as I used one in my last build. Compared to my builds with a Noveske Recon barrel, a DD 16 LW, and a BCM 14.5 I’ve found that with the same ammo that the Centurion tends to group better than the LW or BCM but not as tight as the Noveske, which is pretty much what I expected.
While shooting my Centurion at 100 yards with Remington ball off of my pack and hood of my truck I average about 3", which is about 1.5" better than my DD or BCM. With Black Hills match I’ll get about 1.5" which is not as tight as with my Noveske but better than the DD or BCM.
Across the board with whatever ammo I’m using this seems to be the case. Again no surprises there. I will note that after my initial build I had some issues with the bolt locking open after my last shot. I played with buffer sizes, ammo, and magazines and came to the conclusion that with .223 ammo the carbine buffer was the answer. Even with 5.56, which works fine with the “H” buffer I stay with the carbine buffer now with this carbine.
I believe Centurion is a top flight barrel and will serve you well for 300 yard coyote’s.
If you feed them good enough ammo, they’ll keep that up. Centurion’s barrels are excellent as dual use optics - put good glass on that rifle and you’re going to be extremely happy.
