CCW Glock 27 while walking/jogging

Ok so I did a search and the threads I found were like 2 years old so I figured a new thread would be preferable to a dead thread.

I’m looking for the best way to carry my G27 while going for a walk/jog with the wife. The G27 is my ccw weapon and a new smaller ccw isn’t in the budget.

I’ve been looking at belly bands, thunderwear, fanny packs. What would you guys suggest. I’m 6’5" 285lbs (working on that part, hence the jogging/walking). I usually carry IWB holster but that wont work very well with sweat pants.

Thanks.

I use a Mountain Smith Tour Lumbar Pack: http://www.mountainsmith.com/products.asp?productId=23&categoryId=42&subCategoryId=0&subCategory2Id=0 and a RCS Vanguard Trigger Guard Holster: http://www.ravenconcealmentsystems.com/product_info.php?products_id=1617

If you have a decent quality IWB then it should really be a non issue. Typically on my jog days I wear Kuhl Renegade pants with a RCS IWB for my G27. Never had an issue.

How much do you weigh? I’ve got a bit more padding around the middle than I’m currently happy with and it makes jogging/running with a IWB a pain. There is enough give in the fat under the holster that it moves quite a bit even when tightened to uncomfortable levels. This is with a nice iwb that I can wear during a normal day for 16+ hours and not have a complaint. That and a bum knee has pushed me to mainly biking for cardio.

Oh yeah you a bit larger than I am. I am 6’1" 225. You could always go with a hill people chest bag. http://www.hillpeoplegear.com/Home/tabid/762/ctl/ProductDetails/mid/1916/ProductID/22/Default.aspx

Cheers.

I recommend either Thunderwear or Smartcarry. Have used them for running with the G27 and a couple other small handguns since the late 1990’s.

I have jogged with my Glock 26 since 1998, with a typical run for me being about 5 miles.

When jogging, you not only have to worry about all of your normal concealment issues, but also protecting the gun from sweat. The only good way I have found to do this is with a fanny pack.

Having used a few different fanny packs, I currently use the small size Tommy’s Gun Pack, shown below:

http://www.tommysgunpack.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=1

The small size is about the size and shape of a conventional fanny pack. It is available in colors other than black, if desired. The wide strap provides good comfort while running. As far as fanny packs go, the draw is good. The use of the quick release fastener to open the pack is reasonably fast, and does a good job of disguising the pack as a fanny pack with a detachable waist strap. I can carry a wallet, keys, Blackberry, and if running at night, a Surefire L4, as well as my gun.

If one is concerned about someone identifying the pack as a gun pack (not a big concern in my opinion), simply wear an untucked shirt that hangs down over the pack. Or, sew a patch from a local university or sports team on the pack.

I used the Thunderwear / G27 to jog with for years. Tuck your T-shirt in the front of your pants so it hangs over your crotch (if it is warm enough to jog with the shirt off) and you can jog without looking like you have a boner. Helps if jogging past the pre-school.

The right waistband Camelback is my favorite method but you may have to experiment a bit to get a good rig. i have two really good ones but they do not make the same models anymore or I would list them.

Honestly, sound gay and paranoid.

I live and run in Baltimore City (one of the most ‘dangerous’ cities in America) I have never had a problem nor do I plan too.

I think a lot of gun owners are, sadly, a bunch of punk ass nerds.

Where in the fuck do you people live that you feel you must pack heat to do a little PT?

I saw a guy with a thing called a “belly band” at a CHL instructor’s course in Austin and thought it was pretty neat. Much better idea than the “thunderwear” idea.

I personally don’t think you have the right nor the experience to judge all gun owners as to their reasons or inclination to carry a firearm in the capacity they choose to do so. Get a grip brother. For some a sidearm is a way of life. I know for me it has been ever since before my service enlistment, until my swearing in as a peace officer, till now in semi retirement. Leaving the home unarmed would be like forgetting my wallet or car keys. Maybe you should rethink why you carry and for what reasons.

PS not all threats have to be human. If you live in a rural area some animals can be a danger. Especially recently the issues with bears and cougars here in the PNW.

Fanny pack or a belly band. I used a fanny pack for my M&P9c when I was still running. I felt super gay for the first few weeks of using it but it kind of grew on me.

Hey, congratulations on providing a horrible outlook on carrying and avoiding the OP’s question. Crime can happen anywhere and that’s why many of us make few exceptions for carrying. You’re a soft target while you’re running. Think about it.

And just for the record, your city isn’t that dangerous anymore (Tallahassee is on there, how hardcore is that?)

wrap your firearm in a towel and you’ll be set. In the same time you’ll be working out your arms!

Yep, I don’t go for a run/jog/bike ride un-armed anymore. I was out about 15 miles on a bike ride when some jack hole’s dog decided to come nibble on me. Thankfully I had a knife handy and managed to cut its nose enough while it was gnawing on my heel to prevent any serious injury. I’d much rather have ended it right there.

I’m 6’5" and was 275 about a year ago (down to just under 230 now). I feel your pain. The only thing that worked for me comfortably (as in, didn’t leave a wear mark somewhere on my body lol) was a fanny pack. It’s not the greatest solution in the world, but it’s workable. Stick with it brother.

When I lived in Cali ( no comments PLEASE) we would run in the hills behind our property on one occassion my family and I ran right up to ( about 50 ft away) a mountain lion sunning himself on a large boulder, we quietly backed up and away!! I had a G23 at the time.
here in Texas I’ve run into (bad pun) more than 1 loose dog and had to pull my gun until one real mean one went away.

Bu taccording to above poster, I’m probably just some punk ass bitch… in reality make that old, fat and cripple, fits better.

No 2 legged problem as of yet… I’ve probably just jinxed myself!!

No matter where people live, they live in a community populated by imperfect man, and his sinful nature.

That looks like it might be the ticket for me. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and support

Within the past few years, here in the Pittsburgh area (MUCH safer than Baltimore in general), someone walked into an LA Fitness and started shooting ladies in one fitness class. It was totally random - the guy just had a hatred of women.

If you know when and where you will need a gun, you have a better crystal ball than me.
