I have been using #41’s for years. They have always been silver in color. I just opened a case and they are brass color. Lot # is: G08P.
Does anyone know when they changed? Does it mean anything? An improvement? Just curious.
Doesn’t really mean anything. They are still #41 spec primers.
The silver colored ones are nickel plated, which looks nicer to some and is a little more corrosion resistant.
I still find it odd that we define the color of metals by other metals like silver and gold.
I remember when Winchester went from nickle plating on their WSP and WLP primers and the package said “improved sensitivity” or something to that effect. I can see where the plating would make the surface somewhat harder. I would think the same thing would be going on with the #41’s. Not sure they need to be more sensitive, I find them in the bathroom - balled up on the floor crying enough as it is. :eek:
I’ll bet economics is the real reason: “we make a billion primers a year, how much will we save if we leave off the plating?”
I’ve said the words ‘nickle plating’ to people before and received blank stares in return. ‘Silver’ always gets the point across, but you are right it is odd and I’ll knock it off!
I remember when Winchester switch also. I don’t know if they were more sensitive or not but I did notice that I started getting pierced primers after the change.
