Caught the bug

Its nothing special, just my first adventure to the AR platform. There is no rhyme or reason why I bought any parts except the upper. I went with the piston upper because my buddy said they were worthless and heavy. So I did it to be different. Im very impressed with the quality and mechanics of it, plus its easy to clean.

Lower is DSA with PSA lpk, MOE stock, and a cheap sling
Upper is Adams Arms with MBUIS, Tapco vert. grip and MI quadrail

nice rifle!but you might wan’t to watch out having that front sight mounted on the gas block due to it getting hot and melting the sight.

Secondly the MBUS is not the correct height to use on a gas block rail. Either move it back on to the handguard or buy a dedicated gas block sight.

The block looks to be handguard rail height, no? Should be good to go except for the plastic/heat part, which is not in my knowledge base (no pistons and no front MBUS).

Really nice rig for your first. Mine was cobbled together from a garbage pail but I learned a lot doing that and by the end, it ran fantastic. Think about moving your fornt sight back to the handguard, I seriously doubt that the inch or 2 less of sighting distance is gonna be too detrimental for you…and it may very well save you a front sight.
Best of luck, it only gets worse from here on.

You probably should have listened to your buddy.

Piston AR’s present a different set of problems.
Run a search using the orange search button.

From the pic the gas block rail looks to be about 1/8th of an inch lower than the rail, but more or less it’s pretty close.

Gotcha, I can see now that might be the case. And if so then yeah, double on the reason to move it back for sure.

OP, looks great. I don’t have the gumption to try a piston myself but appreciate your desire to be different. You’ll get another one no doubt… just make that one the same as everyone else’s. Cheers.
