I used a small transfer punch. The point gave me better control. Any small punch will work
auto center punch… first click pilots the stake, then as many clicks as you want to work the metal where you want it.
a General can be had at your hardware store for about $8
Same here, works just fine.
A punch ground to a rectangular shape to match the notch. Grinding a punch is not necessary though, just been some metal over into the notch.

Exactly. While different than the squared off Colt staking, a standard punch works fine. As long as material is displaced from the end plate receiver into the staking notch in the nut, you’re GTG.
