I need your help with a problem (stuck casing in chamber). Here are the details:
1: Gun: Colt 6920 bought new last week with less than 250 rounds through it. The gun was cleaned and well lubricated and I was only at 45 rounds during my practice session when this happened.
2: Ammo: Wolf (with lacquer coating)
3: Circumstances: Practicing 100 feet double taps and the gun is running hot along with the outside temperature (91 degrees). The spent casing fails to eject.
4: I immediately came back to the garage and tried to use a small hammer and an aluminum cleaning rod to dislodge the spent casing while the gun was hot, no success.
5: I have sprayed Brake Free CLP down the barrell and the breach and have let it soak with no success.
6: I presently have the upper in the freezer hoping the spent casing shrinks and helps to break it free.
Any sugggestions???
I was thinking of pouring paint thinner/mineral spirits down the barrell and letting that soak, will it help or cause damage to the gun?
Keep trying with the aluminum rod and hammer, you were on the right track. Letting a little lube seep down the barrel past the case might help as well. Once you have the stuck case freed, inspect and clean your chamber with a GI chamber cleaning brush and your choice of bore cleaner or even Break-free CLP.
If you continue to use Wolf Lacquered Ammo, repeat the chamber cleaning after each range session. A couple twists of the chamber brush should be all it takes. But, chamber cleaning should be incorporated in your routine maintenance regardless of ammo type used.
ETA: When I clean my rifles I use BF Bore Cleaning Foam. It fills the entire chamber when applied to the barrel, making chamber cleaning a snap. A few twists of the chamber brush and I’m done. No additional cleaners to apply to the chamber!
I’ve never used Wolf, but given that i’s lacquer coated the obvious solvent to use would be lacquer thinner, at least that’s what I’d try. I’d avoid getting these on you stock or anything plastic, but they should harm your barrel.
I had this happen alot with my LE6920. Worked fine with Xm193, but Winchester and some other ammo, would cause the fired case to stick.
Usually just let it sit for a few, closed the bolt, and either mortared the gun, or knocked the charging handle on post, and the case would come out.
Got the gun from Ken Elmore, he eventually replaced the barrel, but could never figure out what was up, same ammo would run in my older LtWht Sporter. I’m sure the New Mexico heat and the Q3131a high pressure didn’t help the situation though.
New barrel gun runs fine, until I shoot soem of that winchester from the same lot. Armorers said there was some bad Winchester floating around for awhile.
I’ve used Wolf for about ten years with few to no problems, but the last couple of cases I’ve gotten have done the same thing to my rifle. I’m with Rana stick with the higher end ammo. As for getting it out I had to use a rod and mallet.
Gentlemen: Thank you so much for your help and response. I purchased some lacquer solvent from the hardware store yesterday evening and filled the breach last night and let it set overnight. This morning it popped right out. I cleaned the breach well and used the brush as shown on one of the post and removed a reddish/burgundy waxy material from the breach, this same material was what seemed to be holding the spent cartridge in the chamber.
I learned a few things through this incident, First, thank you GotM4 for your help throughout this whole ordeal and the phone calls. Second, Wolf ammo works as long as you don’t let your gun get hot, at least its that way on mine. Third, I will use the wolf on my Bushmaster when were out plunking around and keep the good stuff for the Colt.
Thankfully no damage was done and no one was returing fire (LOL). Once again, thank you for taking the time to post your replies and help. I really enjoy this forum and have learned more in a month than I have in 40+ years. Thanks again and hope to see you on the range.
If it was me I would go back to the cleaning rod and hammer, it will eventually come out, sounds like your chamber might also need to be polished, Also I wouldn’t use the wolf ammo just because most manufacturers use very tight tolerances on there chambers, that coating peels of the round and packs in the chamber over time.
What kind of rod is this and where can I get one? So far i haven’t been able to locate a rod that is fixed to the handle so you can rotate the chamber brush.
I have gotten the wolf polly stuff stuck in my chamber a few times, it seems I average about 2 oversized rounds out of 1k.
I have been lucky though, a few taps with a cleaning rod and they have always popped out.

It’s a DIY job. I made it from a GI chamber brush, section of aluminum cleaning rod and an x-acto knife handle.
