Recently I’ve seen a BUIS on an AR, and it appears to be the rear portion of a removable carrying handle, including the mounting knob, and buis itself. It looks as if the rest of the carrying handle has been milled, or dremelled away. Anyone seen this modification, or heard of it? I remember thinking when I saw it, how strange it was, but the more I looked and thought about it, it’s really a clever idea. Any ideas???

The home-made variety is called a “chopped carry handle”. Not as pretty, but it works if you have a detachable handle collecting dust.
Slightly modified by removing the large bulky thumb nut, CCH BUISs with some attention during modification, can often times rival the LMT BUIS.

Thanks everyone. I guess if I’d have looked around a little more I could’ve figured it out, but hindsight is 20/20 I guess. Anyway, I like that setup, a little bulky, but if it mounts as solid as my carrying handle, then so be it. I think slightly over-built and sturdy might be better than low-profile and flimsy, as I’ve seen some sights be lately. Who knows, anyway, thanks again.
