So while introducing a friend of mine to Paul Howe’s rifle standards at his ranch the other day, my carrier key came loose. The rifle did not malfunction(presumably Prvi was hot enough to make up for the lost gas,) I only learned it was loose when I was cleaning it later. Thank god, because I had been educating him on how important it was to have a properly staked key. The carrier is “tier one,” and has roughly 2500 rounds through it.
I know the solution is to either torque it back down and stake it again or start anew with another key(which is what I’ll probably do.) I don’t have a MOACKS, I don’t have a torque wrench, and I don’t have a vise for anything other than tying flies.
What reputable(hopefully active on this forum,) business can I send it to to be done properly(and hopefully counter staked as well?)
You can do it. Yourself. Simply retighten the screws and then using staking punch stake it from the top side like we did in the military. When done correctly the stakes will be in a triangle pattern and won’t go anywhere.
