Carbon Build up

While doing some weapons maintenance at work today I noticed some carbon build up in an area other than where I would expect it. The build up was on the front of the end cap and around the rear loop of the front sight base. I realize that this is where the gas port is located. The question I have is this normal. I have never had issues with short stroking or any other gas system related failures.

Pretty normal.

Sometimes a tighter fit between the gas tube and FSB/gas block will limit it. Since your gun is running fine it’s not something to worry about.

Normal on most of the guns I’ve had to varying degrees.

Many rifles have a degree of gas seepage around the gas tube. If you start have cycle problems then address the issue.

Concur,
If it was a major issue you’d have cycling issues.
It wouldn’t be too good to see on your rifle if it was a precision type rig though.

No its a patrol rifle/ training tool.
