i see everybody running midlengths these days but what are the real benefits of it over the carbine? is one more reliable than the other or more picky about cheap ammo? i see people say the midlengths are smoother shooting but other than that what is the real advantage over a carbine gas system?
thanks in advance

I think the only excuse to have a 16" carbine is if your only rifle is a colt.

If you aren’t looking to build a pistol AR or SBR, go with the Mid-length.
According to some, it’s “softer shooting” and less wear and tear on the parts.
Regardless if it’s less wear and tear on parts, you should still have a strict preventative maintenance regimen, and not rely on your gas system to be some magic on preventing things from breaking.
