I’ve pretty much got my tack driver finished, but I can’t decide on which buttstock to go with. I’ve been considering just a plain jane A2 fixed stock, or a Mako SR25 (but the quality on it looks crappy). Post up some pics of what you’re sporting on your long range AR’s.

If this is going to be a tackdriver why not put a PRS on it so that you can get good consistent eye relief for your optic?
A standard A2 (or A1) buttstock, a Magpul UBR, a Magpul PRS, or one of the fixed Vltor rifle stocks would all be viable options for what I would expect from a “tack driver” rifle…
The Mako name is not one that I would associate with quality parts. I’ll let someone more versed in precision rifles comment on whether its feature set looks good, but it looks kinda fubar’d to me.
How is yours set up (other than the stock, of course)? One man’s “tack driver” might be a 20" bull barrel, another’s might be a 16" RECCE-type build. And I wouldn’t necessarily recommend the same stock for each. Bench shooting only? Walking varminter? SPR clone? Be specific.
If you just want a “precision AR picture thread” you might edit your title to reflect what you’re looking for. Or better yet, if all you want to do is see pics, there is a AR picture thread in the AR subforum… Although if you’re really interested in weighing merits, you’ll need more than a bunch of tack-driver pr0n to make a decision.
PRS is a great option.
I do well with the SOPMOD as well.
And here is another excellent collapsible.
And of course the tried and true A1 or A2 are an excellent choice.
PRS for the maximum adjustability - cheek weld height and stock length. The knobs adjustments also allow for a more precise adjustment to suit your needs
ACS for adjustability and sloping cheekweld. I less precise and customizable version of the PRS and my choice for a compromise between the PRS and A2.
A2 for simplicity and weight savings
use whatever stock you like… there’s no format you have to adhere to. for fixed stocks, i like the A1… why get complicated? it’s a stock
PRS or ACS. I have a PRS on my DPMS LR308.
I am running the PRS on my SPR, but I’m still not sure that it’s $200 nicer than an A2. If I had to do it again, I probably would stick with the A2.
The A2 is simple but its pretty long. An adjustable stock is really an asset especially if you are shooting in unconventional positions.
I don’t really see the benefit of an adjustable cheek piece on an AR as you can adjust the scope height based on what mount/rings you get, and there really aren’t many mounts out there that would place the optic high enough you’d really need to raise the cheek peice.
I’m running a SOPMOD on my SPR, and I like it fine.
I’d get your scope and rings/mount you want and go from there. If an A2 (or A1 even) works for you- yeah, more money for ammo. UBR is rock solid and mine came with an extra check piece, so you could bondo it up to the right height, or use some foam and duct-tape.
As you can see, the PRS stock also allows you to use a monopod for a three point set-up. That is actually an AR10 version. I plan on uber-SPRing and AR10 at some point and turning this back into a 3-gun UBR’d stocked rifle.
Personally I don’t care for the PRS and I know I am in the minority with that one… Others love them I just couldn’t get comfortable with it.
I use the following on various rifles.
ACS on my SPR rifle. Need a good peice of glass to finish it off now that the CQT is gone.
The SOPMOD is my favorite for any rifle.
I have also started to really like the EMOD. It doesn’t lock up as tightly as my SOPMOD’s but is acceptable.
All that said I think stocks are a highly personal choice and what works for many might not work for you. Try as many as you can. I haven’t had a chance to play with a SULLY but I know some guys who are very pleased with it.

Thats it so far. It has a 24" SS Colt barrel on it. I need to get another grip on it too. I like the PRS, my coworker has one on his AR, but it seems overplayed. I have seen every post on the AR pic thread, but I still can’t get enough pics of tack drivers to know exactly which setup I want.
I’m thinking the A2 setup will be a good way to go. I like the stoutness of a fixed stock. And it will be long enough to double as a canoe paddle when SHTF.

Just got the A2 stock and new grip in today from Midway USA. I just started masking off the important stuff on the rifle and sprayed a base layer of paint. I did a rough sight in on the scope last week to make sure everything was working. I’ll post up some pics on the painted rifle thread.

I have SOPMOD stocks on all my ARs. Cheek weld is awesome. I’ve tried to find a reason to use the PRS on my Grendel but it’s just not as comfortable to me. I can see my glass perfectly with the SOPMOD. Something to consider----there are a lot of SOPMODs on this page…NICE rifle BTW.
