I’ve got a 13-week old GSD that’s going to be my new battle buddy.
I’m familiar with Combat K9’s offerings, but what sort of load-bearing equipment do you guys recommend for pooches?
It doesn’t have to be specifically military or LE oriented, but I’m not against it. Especially if Fido can stow a couple of extra 1911 mags and a couple of twinkies for me.
For the most part, the Combat K-9 gear is subpar. Not the most quality gear and seems way overpriced.

Signature K-9 is pretty decent. Ray Allen is always a front runner in working dog gear. There are a few other reputable companies out there, but Ray Allen and Signature K-9 should have just about everything youre looking for.
My friend has this for his Aussie sheepdog, works great. She comes backpacking and mountain biking with us, and carries all her own gear.
When I ran a GSD for the department, we used Ray Allen gear also. I believe that they just came out with a tracking harness that is all the rave…including the price. I believe they think its special after looking at the price. It is nice but get your wallet ready.

Beautiful! I love her carmel socks she is sporting. Such a heartbreaker. I hope to talk the wife into a GSD for the house some day. Congrats nonetheless. PS-dont forget about the guard dog thread. She would be the show stopper of the day!

For those of you looking for good GSD, Mals and Labs, the adoption site for Lackland AFB MWD adoptions is a great place to look. Some of the dogs they have available go to needy LE agencies, but a good number of dogs who are being dropped from the MWD course for various reasons are also available.
I can’t find any dirt on either of these two products that I am HIGHLY interested in. I don’t require ballistic pro for the pooch, so these are looking to be right in line.

The worst day of my life was in '97 when my pooch had to be put down.
Jake was a fine looking pup, my good man.
Im getting ready for the inevitable subject of my working dog being put down here shortly. He went Cat-4 a few weeks ago with what seems to be degenerative myolopothy. He has portions of his spine and the surrounding discs that have been pressing into his spinal cord and causing him to collapse at random. He has been an awesome partner and a loyal friend.
I’m really sorry, man.
Honestly, the reason I had to get the pup was completely selfish, but it’s that my Aussie’s getting up there in age, and I’m going to be hosed when he goes. I’m hoping having another buddy would soften the blow up when it comes.
There’s a certain type of awful when it comes to losing a dog.
I can really relate to this, I miss my Rotti “Carlos”. My ins. company made me get rid of him. I really had no other option at the time. Two things help, he went to a good family, and my wifes all German bloodline GSD “Jasmine”. I do still long for another Rotti, might be time for new ins. company… I still get a little teary eyed thinking about him…8yrs. later. I hope he is well.
