Cancelled MSAR STG 556 Layaway got Colt 6721

I put an MSAR STG 556 on layaway a week or two ago. I have been looking for Magazines for the MSAR and most I have seen were $40+ for the 30 rounders. I decided today to cancel the layaway. I didnt want to spend that much on mags for that gun and I have been reading a lot about the MSAR and was not keen on the accuracy and trigger difference betwen the AR platform and the MSAR. So a long story longer my gunshop had two Colt 6721 Carbines on the rack and I got one I like the AR platform and also the idea that I have 30+ brand new mags and they are cheaper than $40 a pop to buy. I hear a LOT about Colts on here so I snached it up. I hope it was a good decision. I’m thinking of trying to make the Colt into a MK18 copy, not sure yet.

Nothing wrong with that, good to keep on the same system. Maybe later on you can pick up the MSAR if funds allow for a “collector” piece. Templar used one in a recent LV class and it ran fine.-plenty accurate as well.

Sounds like a great move to me. I have a Colt 6920 and its wicked accurate. Nice heavy barrel on the gun. Should make a good target gun. Let us know when you shoot it.

Yeah i woulda gone with the colt too, my biggest issue with the MSAR is the unavailability/price of mags and the fact its not versatile like the AR platform. There great guns and i here this new run of em will be better than the previous. I knew accuracy was good but i gotta stick to the gun that can shoot .22 all the way through .50BMG enjoy man

I have a friend who has a STG556 and it won’t run on Wolf. I also I don’t like the optic as compared to a Aimpoint or Eotech. It is compact rifle, but for the price of $3500.00 I’d prefer two 6920 rifles.

I think the price on the mags was the real deal breaker $40+ per I can get 2 Brownells Tactical mags for that price or like 3 USGI green follower mags. I do have one question though. As you guys have way more civilian AR experience than me what are the best bullet weights to shoot in the 1/7 twit vs the 1/9 twist of the 6721, I will have one of each when I get back from Afghanistan and want to know what ammo to purchase for the best accuracy in each.

Thanks,
JP

Good choice. I like the fact that the 6721 has the heavy barrel. Your 1/9 twist can handle 55 and 62 grn ammo. 1/7 can handle those, as well as 75 grn and up.

Good choice.

The microtec AUG will be worth pennies on the dollar once the Steyr is out.

you got to it faster than I, but yes in response to his question the 1/10 and 1/9 IMHO i use 55gr.-62gr. 1/8 is kinda in between, but i wouldnt hesitate to run 62’s through it, but i tend to stick with 1/9 or 1/7, one for lights, one specificly for heavys. I know alot of the guys on here have several more AR’s than i and therefore can have all different ROT’s but generally speaking the sharper the twist (1/7) the heavier the bullet to be used, and vice versa

correct me if im wrong but can you not take the 3 scope screws out of the AUG and replace with a rail for whatever you want? Ive done it before but maybe the AUG was messing with was newer or somthin

Ones opinion and not fact! If and when any type of ban goes into effect all weapons on the AW list will be worth considerably more.

AFWIW I checked out a Saber/Steyr Aug locally several days ago and I must admit the MSAR still appears to have better fit and finish over the Steyr.

Actually that is fact. A preban Colt AR15 brings more than a preban Bushy or Olympic.

Does your MSAR with “fit and finish” have proper proofing, Steyr QC, and proper materials? I don’t think so.

Yes you can remove the optic, with the three screws

Oh, i meant that i thought you could take the three screws out to put a rail on, cause you can with the MSAR’s i think:rolleyes:?

I can’t argue the fact about Colt v/s lesser brands. Your post was the following
The microtec AUG will be worth pennies on the dollar once the Steyr is out.
That statement is not true now and unless you have a crystal ball might not be true in the future. FWIW the Aug being made for Steyr USA is contracted out to a outside vendor as well. As far as materials used I would argue that they are proper. And I really didn’t notice any Steyr proofing on the Steyr/Saber offering. And as far as comparing the QC I feel the MSAR example is superior. I owned a original example Steyr in the mid 80’s and I put well over 10,000 rds thru it and after time the spray on finish Steyr used started to flake. So you can think what you want I speak from my experience’s.

Actually, that could be true if an import ban passes. In that case the new Styer/Sabre AUGs might sell for a good deal more than STG’s because no more will enter the country thus increasing their rarity while MSAR keeps cranking out affordable STG’s since they aren’t vulnerable to an import ban.
For the record, I don’t care what rifle anyone chooses as long as it fits their particular needs & pocketbook. I happen to have 4 STG’s sitting in my gunsafe (only 2 are mine now, 1 I gave to my son and 1 I promised to sell to his best friend) because the STG fits my current needs better than any other rifle currently available. If something better comes down the pike in the future then I may replace my STG’s with the “something better”.
Just my $.02 worth…

Go to AR15.Com>armory>bullpups to see what people are saying about the new “Steyr” AUGs. It is NOT head and shoulders above the STG556. In fact, there may be problems with customer service and support and spare parts for the AUG. The STG556 is coming out in an E4 variation this month and will accept M-16 magazines.
Personally, I much prefer my STG556 over any of my three AR-15 platforms and will buy the E4 as soon as it hits the market.

I don’t care. They say the same thing about Colt AR15s.

Once the Steyr is out, the market for the MSAR will reduce and they will be cheaper.

I have never once been wrong about any of these market happenings.

Is there a way to fix the MSAR556 horrible spongy trigger. Its much worse than my EBO G3.
