I am currently looking for a new Chest rig that is more practical for me. But I am having some what of a hard time finding something even close to what I want.
I am looking for a basic active shooter right that will hold three to four rifle mags and still have the molle loops so I can add pouches I deem necessary at the time. But one of the big things that I require the ability to place either hook and loop or sewn on “POLICE” placards on the front and back for easy identification. The two things I need to stay with are the ability to carry three to four rifle mags and the ID patches.
I was going to have Diz make me a one off rig but we as we all now know he is not currently doing any more custom work.
So if you know where I can get what I am looking for let me know. Thanks in advance
I use it when I’m driving(in Iraq) but also can be worn like a bandoleer. It holds 6 mags flat against the body. Or 5 mags and a radio/1st Aid Items/ect. It sits flat against the body, works great with P-Mags, anything can be added to the front and still maintain a fairly low profile.
If you only need to carry 4 mags just keep the outer 2 mag pouches empty- it will still wrap around your body fine and balance out.
It goes on and off fast and the quality is excellent.
One thing about DBT, call and make sure it’s in stock before ordering it, and they do a mil/LE discount.
Hope that helps,
Dave
I had a plate carrier that I just sold. What I am looking for is something I can leave in my cruiser bag and be thrown on in an instance. I have been looking at the 5.11 chest rig, I can add three open top mag pouches to but I really wont be able to add the ID patch to it. The ID patch that is the most important to me is the front. In my train of though, hevean forbid Im ever involved in an active shooter. But I would like the victims/innocent people to be able to ID me as some one who is trying to help them not just as another shooter trying to kill them (as if the badge and uniform doesnt give it away).
I would say to stay away from zippers and small fastex buckle vests, both will be hard to control when you are responding to a shooting.
That is the main reason I advocate plate carriers; only 2 huge fastex buckles and 1 can be left on so you are only worried about hooking one up. They are also a steady platform for a “vest attached” single point sling.
There are also Rhodesian style or rack type chest rigs out there; paraclete and eagle both make one.
What about an Eagle M4 chest rig? 3 open top, kydex mag pouches, with PALs webbing on them and PALS on either side so you can add pouches. Im sure you could find a way to attach some velcro for patches. It doesn’t have a back though… I find mine pretty easy to throw on. It’s pretty light too. Can be kind of hard to find though.
I recently bought the Eagle LE M4 rig that will hold 3 mags in inserts and still has room for molle pouches on each side (I recomment the excellent ATS small med pouch). I also bought the TT mini-MAV rig from Todd at Rainier Gear. On the mini-MAV I attached a 3 mag shingle with a horizontal E&E pouch on top and a single pistol mag pouch and multi tool holder on either side. You could attach a placard with a police patch on the front of either as well. They are both light and could be donned fast. Both are also very reasonably priced.
I have had many others and settled on these. Other than that, I would get the Eagle LE plate carrier w/ cumberbun or the TT MAV rig.
I just sold my Eagle plate carrier. I am looking for something that takes up minimal space and will fit in my cruiser bag. Right now I am still leaning towards the 5.11. I know many here are not to fond of 5.11 because of durability issues, but this thing will mostly sit in my cruiser bag and only come out for training or if I have to deploy it for its intended purpose.
Both the TT mini-MAV and the Eagle LE M4 carrier will fit inside a typical BOB like the County Comm or LA Police Gear bags. The TT mini-MAV is smaller though
It is an exclusive item sold by Rainier Gear out of Alaska. I will send you the contact info tomorrow when I get back in the office. There is a topic on it on the lightfighter forums. Just search for mini-MAV. I’ll get you the info in the morning.
