I have an Arsenal 107 CR, which is just begging to be SBR’d. I was thinking that instead of doing the Krink style break that one would expect, why not do that nifty Noveske KX3? So, that begs the question: is there an adapter that would allow me to mate up the 5/8 x 24 threads of the KX3 to the 24 mm threads of the front sight base on that rifle?
Also, does anybody see any problems with cutting my barrel back, due to the chrome lining? I assume it was chrome lined. I am out of town now and can’t take a peak in the barrel. Has anybody done this with their 107 CR?
Hey there FNG,
Why would you want to destroy the look of an Arsenal AK with an AR part anyway?
Way to pop your M4C cherry with a question like that…
Well that would be one more US made compliance part. Meaning you could add or swap out another part for an authentic foreign piece.
How many US parts are in the 107 CR?
Maybe with the gas block in its current location you wouldn’t need to SBR it with the KX3. Just cut, thread, pin and weld to bring it to 16". The KX3 adds what like 2.4 inches?
Huh? SBRing a 107CR is just cutting the barrel back to the gas block as it was intended. No need to move the gas block. IIRC it gives about a 12" barrel (or close to it).
Finding an adapter would be the biggest challenge. TROS USA makes a lot of adapters for suppressors so they could probably do this as well but I bet it would be fairly spendy to do… Maybe the original isn’t such a bad idea…
Does your -107CR have the fake flash hider or just the thread protector? The 24mm threads on the Bulgarian front sight base are way bigger than 5/8" on the KX brake. If you wanted to use the US brake you’d have a big gap bewteen the threaded nozzle on the FSB and the threads you’d have to cut on the barrel to attach the Noveske brake. The only way I could see to do this would be to pull the front sight base and completely cut off the threads. Then you could saw the barrel off to whatever length would leave you enough room to thread the barrel and have the Noveske brake mate up flush with your front sight.
Also, the detent on the Bulgarian front sight base is made to retain a 24mm muzzle device. You might have issues there with the plunger not interfacing properly with the Noveske brake.
I’ve got to agree with The _Katar on this one. Why go through all the hassle? Get the proper brake from K-VAR or one of the AK-104 brakes from AK-USA.

There’s no issue with sawing off the barrel. Cut and recrown and you’re done.
Howdy all, thanks for the input. I am still hemmin and hawing over how to go about getting it done. I will likely send it to Chris Butler, before Lord Hussein bans SBRs. I will be going with the standard Krink looking muzzle device.
Chris Butler chopped my rifle and he pulled the barrel to do so. I talked to Mario at Piece of History Firearms after the fact and he said he would have left the barrel in and chopped it with the barrel in the rifle. Two different methods but I’m assuming pretty much equal results.
Chopping shouldn’t have much affect on longevity but there will be a bald spot in the chrome lining since the barrel should be re-crowned after the chop.
You’ll have to contact Mario and/or Chris to see what the going rate and turn-around is. Another good choice would be the guys at Rifle Dynamics.
