I’m still confused as to whether or not i can fire 5.56 ammo out of my rifle. The lower receiver has .223 stamped on it, but it’s a 20" inch Hbar with a 1 in 7 twist.
You would think that Colt’s could handle the higher pressure round seeing as they are one of the most expensive AR’s.
I fired 5 different kinds of 55g loads out of it last weekend after buying it.
they were Tula 55g, PMC 55g, winchester 55g, Remington 55g, and American Eagle 55g.
The American Eagle is the white box that has on it 5.56mm(.223 Remington)
is the American Eagle modeled after 5.56 of some sort? I’m confused and would hope that this Colt Hbar could handle 5.56 without blowing up.
I’d feel really stupid if i bought this Rifle now knowing of my mistake.
I’m fairly new to the AR world. Price has nothing to do with why i was worried. I recently ordered some ammo that is Nato spec and i was worried about it blowing up my rifle.
I have a Colt Match Target 6601C that was manufactured in 1999. The serial number is CMH026XXX. The barrel is marked C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7 HBAR. If your Colt still has the original barrel, it is chambered for 5.56.
Jimston you are looking at your lower receiver, look at the markings on your barrel in front of your front sight. It should be marked like nitmr26’s barrel.
For the love of God, can we really put this to rest? It’s pretty simple. Assuming that this is a real Colt that hasn’t been dicked with you can shoot 5.56 all day long through it.
