It’s widely known that M193 will penetrate most Level III steel armor when fired from a long enough barrel due to its higher velocity. Winchester 45 gr varmint JHP can generate even more velocity, about 3,500 fps from a 20" barrel, but it obviously has much lighter construction. So here’s the question: Will that tiny little bullet still have enough mass to get through? If so, which barrel length will do it? Multiple poll choices are allowed so cast your vote for the barrel length or lengths that you think have enough oomph to get through.

Paul Schlom(sp?) the guy who used to make PortaTarget steel told me that armor plate is funny that way, you get something that stops a round at 3150fps and the round penetrates like a hot knife through butter at 3200. At the time he recommended against using one brands ‘white box’ 55 grain FMJ on his steel because the velocities were all over the place. He replaced the plates and I got tired enough of picking jacket shards out of my arms that I quit shooting metal with rifle at less than 50 yards.
