Camp Shelby told not to use Christmas by EO Officer from DEOMI

More shit from the PC crowd!

Two weeks ago, a routine meeting was held at the Mississippi base with various leaders of the 158th Infantry Brigade. During the meeting, they discussed an upcoming Christmas football tournament. The equal opportunity officer immediately objected to the usage of the word “Christmas.”

“Our equal opportunity representative stopped the briefing and told us that we can’t say Christmas,” the soldier told me. “Almost the entire room blew up. Everybody was frustrated. The equal opportunity rep told our commander that not everyone celebrates Christmas and we couldn’t say Christmas celebration. It had to be holiday celebration.”

The national commander of the American Legion is demanding answers from the Veterans Administration after hospitals in three states placed restrictions on Christian volunteers, including a group of schoolchildren who were told they could only perform Christmas carols from a government-approved list.

Anyone ever actually been in a meeting/briefing where something like this happened?

My last O-6 commander said the same thing, so at command and staff meetings I would say, “Our generic winter tree celebration will be…”

So, we now have KGB style political officers in our military?

The last group from my deployment just left there this morning, we demobed through there in three groups, the S1 was keeping me updated on facebook how they showed up to clear finance and get their DD214s yesterday and found a sign saying the building was closed for the Holidays until the 27th. Phone calls were made and the staff showed up and people were able to complete the demob in time to be home for Christmas. I think having a total of four individuals with parents that are generals (half retired), one who is the state’s Adjutant General probably helped in getting them to show back up.

When people used to ask me whether I thought going in the military was a good idea, I generally said yes (with some caveats). Now when they ask me, I say no way in hell I’d do it again in todays political climate. That’s just sad. :frowning:

It’s a matched set with our STASI NSA.

We have become so politically correct in the US that when our European guys come over to the US, we have to tell them to tone it down a bit.

Freedom of religion has become freedom from religion.

In my line of work I come in contact with a lot of young ones whom the military would do wonders. I used to tell them to go into whatever branch they wanted to get out of the area. Not so much anymore. It is a shame it has come to this.

glocktogo…I agree 100%. I don’t even make mention I was the Corps anymore.

No but he was told by a “Reliable source”

It seems like we are seeing more and more of these stories and in the style of modern journalism they are always stories from someones buddies mothers cousins best friends son. And of course they have one source with no effort to confirm the details. Political correctness is running amok. We agree there. But these alarmist stories with no confirmation or even a real reliable starting source are getting old. More often than not they end up being as false as the snow on the pyramids photos we saw a couple weeks ago.

Going by the article, it appears that the DEOMI rep took it upon herself to force the issue, though the PA Chief states it was only a suggestion. Either way, I’m surprised that a brigade commander didn’t step up and politely overrule the DEOMI rep. Maybe this will generate plenty of backlash to the point where these “suggestions” will be deemed “offensive” to begin with and will not be tolerated. There’s a certain amount of irony that some branches of our military find it necessary to have “political officers” in attendance to oversee that policies of the “Politburo” are strictly enforced. “I see “reeducation” camps in the near future to deal with our dissident officers corp. Don’t you agree Boris?”

I am eagerly counting down these last 4 yrs.

Yea guys, jumping out of planes and shooting people in the face is so totally not worth the occasional dumb story like this.

Look at the sheer HORROR of these troops unable to celebrate their holidays!

I have to agree with you.

Now this: Susan Chapman is a teacher at Grace Academy of North Texas and, at a parent’s suggestion, organized a project for students to take cards to wounded military veterans to thank them and cheer them up during the holidays. She attempted to deliver those cards to a VA hospital in Dallas on Dec. 22. However, VA staff reportedly stopped her when she entered the facility, telling her that gifts or messages with religious content were not permitted by VA policy.

“It is so sad that the VA is sending a message to our children that after all the veterans have done to fight for freedom across the world, the children have no freedom to say Merry Christmas to these honorable men and women,” Chapman said.

Texas-based Liberty Institute sent a demand letter to the VA, insisting they immediately drop this policy which allows a generic greeting but disallows references to Christmas, which is officially recognized as a national holiday under federal law.

Liberty Institute’s Director of Litigation, Hiram Sasser, responded in a statement, “The VA is once again engaging in unlawful religious discrimination. It is shameful that the VA continues to censor religious speech in Christmas cards when the VA knows it is against the law to do so.”

Sir, you’ve got your opinion, and I/we have ours. Amongst things already listed here, Ill throw these other reasons in as to why I wouldn’t join, nor allow myself to be drafted, into the U.S. military again:
OPENLY allowing homosexuals to not only serve, but allow sexual conduct by the same. And FYI//I DONT CARE what you or anyone else call me or agree/disagree. This is MY reasons.
Militant lesbians put in charge of mens lives, all because they are…well…militant lesbians. YES, I have 3 examples I know of. NO, I aint sharing them, I give a damn whether anyone believes me or not.
The lowering of standards to allow for weaker women & more feminine men to enlist and stay in.
Mainly, the complete religious witch hunt of CHRISTIANS. Cant say JESUS, chaplains reporting they cant pray in Jesus’ name, ect.
Also, COMPLETLY ignoring obvious, dangerous activities of individuals identifying as MUSLIM, and, out of fear of retaliation, permitting atrocities like Fort Hood to happen, BECAUSE NO ONE HAD THE ****ING BALLS TO LET HIGHER UPS KNOW THAT THE SHOOTER WAS A FANATIC AND SHOWING SIGNS OF VIOLENT RHETORIC AND BEHAVIOR. Soldiers on base are disarmed, and not allowed to even protect themselves with issue weapons ON BASE. Atrocious. Utterly, totally suicidal. Our military is in dire straights, from the so-called Commander in Chief, right down to the Congress that NEVER gives them a raise, NEVER gives them ANYTHING extra or above, and recently has started TAKING from them to give to the ****ing dregs of society. Sub par housing, spouses ON ****IN FOOD STAMPS FOR GODS SAKE, IN AMERIKA, our military’s fighting men & women have families on WELFARE!! ****ING SHYSTER Congress and President. Now, tell me WHATS to be proud of?

Dude; chill out. Many of the valid compliants that you cite have been the standard since the Clinton days (and maybe before then).

I share these exact sentiments also, yet I could not plaster them in words, as well as you did. Amen Brother.
