Not sure if this has been posted before, but here’s a great video I came across about a year ago. It shows how the cam pin functions and a potential ‘short-coming,’ if you will, of the AR platform. It also explains the cam pin wear found on many ARs, including DI and Piston systems:

I am going straight to the pawn shop and sell my AR’s and M16 before this video goes viral! Maybe then I could get one of those East German-type AK’s sold by IO.

Good video. It does make a strong case for modifying the bolt and carrier design to make a more freely-moving BCG. Once I get home I’ll play around more with my upper and how much an engineer I can pretend to be.

No one here is arguing that this is some fatal flaw to the system, it’s simply something to be aware of. Besides, with all those arfcommers complaining about ‘cam pin wear’ it helps to understand how cam pin wear comes about.
