I sent this link to another member here yesterday. These look really nice though. I did not post the video because I didn’t feel like getting attacked by all the Tier 1 Anti Yeager crew.
I think the Stamped rear tang on the milled gun is something every non-traditional AK maker should go to. I used to always tell my friends “if you want a milled AK, you better like the stock!”
I handled one of the V2s. It seemed really nice but was very heavy. My friends thought it was heavy as well. I dunno if this is a byproduct of their milled receiver or if the furniture was just dense. The gun wasn’t mine so I didn’t dig into it.
The RAS-47 is starting to look interesting to me. With Magpul releasing their new AK furniture and reinforced mags, I’ve been looking for potential hosts for a fun, cheap, tacticool AK build. The pricing seems right and I like that they are using a nitride finish instead of the crappy parkerizing of WASRs. This is Century though, so I will be waiting for reviews before going any further.
RAS 47 looks interesting - and 4150 barrel is good. Still would like to know the real comparison of 4150 w/nitride vs. CHF CL AK barrel (like on a WASR). Still don’t like the finger groove grip, and why not a top cover with stampings? The blonde wood on the black nitride finish looks nice also.
Thinner top covers needed the stamping for rigidity. A thicker steel doesn’t need it. Reference AK-100 top covers.
Looking forward to seeing the RAS vs PSA AK vs something from DDI vs something from Kalashnikov USA. The U.S. AK market has such potential, I really hope we don’t step on our own dicks.
As I recall, the ‘smooth’ and ribbed dust covers are identical in thickness. The original dust covers were smooth and thick - which is why there is always a stamped nub at the front of the dust cover. Nevertheless, the ribbed dust cover was an effort to improve the strength of the dust cover, but the Russians (among others) concluded that any gain in strength is minimal and that it wasn’t worth the cost to rib the dust covers.
Odd. I’ll have to look at a Saiga (Russian AK-100) dust cover and compare it with an Arsenal (Bulgarian AK-100-ish) dust cover next time I have the opportunity. I do not recall the smooth dust covers as being heavier or thicker than the ribbed.
It would be sweet to have the c39v2 with Magpuls new Zhukov-s stock, it seems you would get the smoothness of shooting a milled, with what looks to be a very comfortable stock. I have an slr107fr so will probably never be buying the Zhukov. So maybe a c39v2 will be on the horizon.
