With gun prices on the rise, I’ve really been wondering if it’s worth it to buy an AR now, or wait until after the election is over. It’s pretty much impossible to buy a good AR for under $1,000* so would it be worth it to wait until after the election is over or do you think buying now is the best option? Will gun prices change much after the election?
*Don’t turn this thread into a war over how this may be possible
There are still plenty of good deals out there. If you think this is crazy wait till after November.
If you see a rifle you want, BUY IT, for next time you look it may not be there. I work at a LGS and already black guns and ammo are getting hard to bring in. If BHO does not get re-elected you will find many of the better brands will be backordered from the pre election rush. Of course if he does, 2008-09 may seem like childs play compared to what we may see.

I’m speaking for myself as I’ve played this thought over and over in my head again and again. While I do not Know what the future holds I know what the present is because I’m living in it. I was torturing myself with the “whatifs” of the future, so I found a good deal and slept on it for a few nights then made my decision to act now, a week later a brand new DD M4V1 ended up in my possession, this was this past Friday . Now this is my first AR but now I do not have to torture myself about the what ifs and if the price goes down in the future so be it , I really don’t care , because on the other hand if the price goes up even further and or something stupid happens, I’m covered. I have my beauty to enjoy and I will never regret my decision. If you find a quality AR at reasonable price to even a slightly higher price jump on it why not ? It’s funny … I almost sleep easier now knowing I have my AR and I’m sure many of you that have owned them or many of them for quite some time are thinking I’m crazy I am sure others know exactly how I’m feeling right about now. Who knows what the future holds … I don’t care I have an AR
The current prices out there are extremely reasonable… it won’t be that way in two months… in 6 months prices will be either extremely similar to today’s prices…or… EXTREMELY higher.
Exactly this, if you can afford it, buy it. Your gonna pay more, probably, but you will have it
Buy now. Colt 6920 prices are a good indicator and they are starting to climb again, but you can still find 6920s/6720s below $1000.
I stopped by my preferred local FFL yesterday, and he admitted to me that he is stocking up on hi cap mags and ammo. Playing the market so to speak. None of them are for sale (HUGE stockpile - some dumb-ass came in with 150 GI mags and sold them for $75). If the worrywarts are right, he triples his prices. If not, the will go on the shelf for his usual moderate markup.
He is one of the “sell more at a lower price” and comes out even or ahead of his competitors selling at higher prices.
I’d rather be left wishing I waited, than wishing I had acted.

Truth be told, I think our guns will be safe for a while no matter who gets elected. That being said, there will still such a frenzy leading up to the election that will probably drive prices way up. It could take a year for the prices to come back down even if romney does win.

Thats what happened last time. Truth is we don’t know what the future holds. If there continues to be well publicized active shooter situations, we could be looking at another AWB by either party.
If BHO is reelected he could hurt us, but IMHO if he is not reelected he could do the same as a lame duck for a couple of months using executive order if nothing else.
The shooting at the Empire State Building is a perfect argument that gun control doesn’t work, but the libs and the ignorant have never seen that argument.
Truth is… we just don’t know. I have way more than I NEED although there is always something else that I want. As a precaution I have bought several lowers in the past month. These will come in handy if we face another AWB worded in the same way as the last one. (that in itself is a big assumption) Unfortunately, a new ban could require registration of all existing weapons that fit into whatever catagory and then make them non transferrable. We could also see heavy regulation/taxation on ammunition.
Do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable… any of these possibilities could be wrong. As for me? I will always feel more comfortable with a top quality rifle, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and a couple dozen mags.
