Did a search and didn’t see anything, but wanted to ask the hive how they run their QD slings and why. Specifically, on the buttstock (if you run yours there; N/A if not), do you run your QD attachment on the inside or the outside?
I’ve always run mine on the inside, but after watching a video on the MS4 from Magpul, it looks like the outside would actually fit my uses better. I’m considering switching and wanted to see what everyone else uses.
I run it on the outside. I’m right handed, so it goes on the right side of the butt stock. I’ve found things get less tangled up when mounting the gun that way. When I tried mounting on the inside, the end of the sling sometimes got in the way of the butt stock getting a firm seat on my body.
I’d strongly suggest you try it for a while and see how it feels to you.
Yep, outside. I’m a right-hander and as low-speed as they come, but I also find this attachment method makes it easier to transition to support side shooting just by letting out some slack (I use Viking Tactics two point slings).
Inside as close to the receiver as possible. Right handed shooter, so my QD is on the left side all the way forward on the stock as possible. It doesn’t matter what stock, A2 or collapsible.
I also put the front QD as close to the recover as possible. Think the QD point on a LaRue rail…which is what I usually have.
2-point; inside either at the very rear of the stock. If I need a 2-point, it’s because I want to tighten the sling and be able to move without having to hold the gun, and having the mount as far as possible to the rear and top of the stock works best for me. Having the mount on the outside leaves it hanging weird.
Single-point; inside or center, rear of receiver.
Outside. And close to receiver as possible. Right handed shooter. With the sling on the outside I can get the stock deeper in my sholder pocket. When I had it on the inside, CTR stock, it would sometimes bind. Switched to outside and never looked back.
Outside, towards the top, so the sling doesn’t run between the stock and my shoulder and it seemed slightly less likely to choke me when shooting support side.
But I have since switched to receiver end plate which makes shoulder transitions easier as well as kneeling/squatting down without sticking the muzzle into the ground.
Outside here as well. Not a fan of attaching to QD end plates unless it’s for single point slings, which I don’t run anyway. As far back (QD attach on B5 stock)on stock and as far forward on the rail/handguard.
I used to mount on the outside of my VLTOR iMod, but without rotation limiting, it was always getting twisted. It was also less than ideal for weak side transitions.
I eventually switched to an IWC QD endplate with limited rotation and it’s much better. Transitions are easier and it never gets twisted up.
I switched to outside mounting a couple years ago after I got fed up with my sling getting caught on my plate carrier. It makes quick transitions much easier (I run a VTAC sling), and keeps things from getting bound up.
To those that mount on the outside, does that mean you also mount the front sling attachment on the outside, or inside?
I’m right handed and run both QD points on the inside (left), but I also have a QD endplate. I alternate between the QD on the stock and endplate depending on what gear I’m wearing.
