I have a Bushmaster A2, 20" barrel. Only modification was a different rear grip. I was considering a few additional changes, but wanted some feedback before making the purchases. I do not intend to add optics, iron sights are all I am using. I want to keep it simple, I do not intend to deck it out with all the bells and whistles.
I was considering changing the front sight post to something I could see in low light conditions. The Meprolight looked interesting, but what would you guys suggest in addition to that item? I’m leaving the stock rear sight alone.
The Daniels Defense Omega looks very intriguing and easy to install. Does floating the barrel in such a manner really improve accuracy? Is the DD Omega heavier than the original front stock?
a 7.0 omega adds 4oz to a carbine, IIRC, so a 12.0 probably adds 7 or 8oz. well worth it to have rails and FF.
i wouldnt sweat FF, though- if you’re shooting nothing but irons, FF won’t matter to you in the least.
as far as upgrading that bushy, i’d focus on reliability issues. bushmasters suffer from some QC problems that can make them less reliable than other brands- i’d swap out the BCG for a colt/LMT/BCM/YM (the only 4 BCGs i’d use on any gun), or, at the very least, get a SPHPTMPI bolt in there and re-stake the carrier key. at the very, very, very least, get an extractor spring and insert upgrade from BCM… it’s like $4.
also, your castle nut is most likely not staked- stake it. and if you’re serious about making the gun as good as it can be, get the chamber reamed by someone who knows what they’re doing.

I should have mentioned that the person who owned the rifle before me had it examined and touched up by a gunsmith, but I will check the castle nut. The extractor was already upgraded. Who is BCM? I thought that the bolt carrier group couldn’t be swapped between AR’s unless headspacing is rechecked.
headspace is set when the barrel extension is attached to the barrel, everything else is standardized.
BCM is a manufacturer of exceptionally good shit- available at www.bravocompanyusa.com and other places. their BCGs and complete uppers are right up there with colt and LMT.
