What type of barrel construction will be utilized on the standard barrels?
Are cold hammer forged barrels even on the radar?
Whay type of rifling and what rate of twist will the barrels have?
Will the barrel and chamber be made to SAAMI specs in .223 remington or to milspec 5.56mm NATO?
Is the firing pin block safety spring loaded or of the UMP type similar to a 1911 extractor?
Does the piston configuration negatively effect barrel harmonics in any way?
Will parts like barrels, bolts, carriers, etc…be magnetic particle inspected?
What type of warranty will the gun come with? Bushmaster currently offers a one year limited warranty on all their products. A lifetime warranty would be nice to see.
A: NO! - but IT DOES NOT MATTER. Why? Because, if they follow through with one of the central design features, the barrel will have
the ability to use any AR-15 barrel with only a minor modification and
it will be a quick-change barrel
So, you can install the high dollar cold hammer forged barrel that YOU seem to think is best on an ACR. There will ALWAYS be pissing contests about “X-brand barrels are the BEST!” and internet gun gurus will ALLWAYS enter these pissing contests. Hence, the ACR’s brilliant solution to the “issue.”
Q: what about harmonics?
This is mis-leading. Most gun “experts” do not understand harmonics. But, they do not need to understand.
Instead consider this: free-floated barrel. Almost anyone can make a rifle shoot more accurate groups if they relieve the pressure pushing/pulling on a barrel - i.e. they “free float” it.
To do this on any AR, its simple: turn it into a single shot by plugging the port, then removing the gas system and then do not let anything touch the barrel.
BUT - if you want a semi, then consider this: the LESS material pushing/pulling on the barrel, the MORE accurate the gun potentially will be. The DI system doen not contain a spring; pistons do. That pressure MAY affect accuracy (and usually does to a minor degree in most current systems).
Again: HOW much accuracy do you think you need? I think many current pistons offer “enough.”
I’m aware that the ACR will take standard AR barrels, but here’s the problem. According to the Bushmaster rep I spoke with, the option to send your choice of barrel in to them to have the gas block and piston system installed will most likely not be available for a few YEARS.
That was one of my biggest attractions to the Masada from the start…the ability to use whatever parts YOU want. It’s not a big deal, I’m sure it will be just fine with whatever barrels they choose to include.
